you have a hireling, so its not solo :p
what level?
my record is 38mins on a lvl9 barb (i know, not fast, but still^^)

It was on Casual Difficulty.
Obviously I had NO idea what I was doing.
I did all of it without a hireling until the last fight.
I decided I didn't want to do all that work and die at the end, so i brought in a pocket cleric to make sure I didn't die.
So ALMOST all of it was soloed.
what level?Looks like level 12 and he has enough XP to level up to 13.
Five hours and forty-five minutes at level 12 to do a level 7 quest on casual with a hireling.
Yeah, you should have tried googling "ddo the pit" and doing the quest 5 levels ago for it's 12k+ XP per run.

Props to the OP - At least he stuck with it, without a guide. It's not an easy quest to solo if you don't know it.

This. Good job, man. By far one of the hardest quests to go into 'blind'.

grats man..regardless of level that is certainly a confusing array to navigate. I remember soloing coal chamber for the first time...never having attempted it...took a bit but the feeling of satisfaction I got was enormous.
grats again.

so how did you get up top to pull the lever on the third furnace? Was that what you brought the hireling in for?

My question is how much time was spent in the room with the steam powered jumps? It is a bit of a pain timing those right, took me a while. Anyways, grats to you, I soloed this myself and know it can be a frustrating dungeon. I won't be back anytime soon ;)

Man, I'm not too sure I would want to snort coke and do hookers for 341 minutes, much less spend that time solving the pit.
I did solve the Spies in the House quest the other day from the Sentinels pack I just bought, it took me 90 minutes. That was a little annoying but enough of a puzzle to be fun, even though I was running through it with a level 17 character.

he brought the hireling only for the last fight
the third furnace you can do with a jump and a haste pot

don't know how he did it, but i have solod it before. there is a ledge you can jump to when you hit the 2nd lever and run back to the geyser. diffficult, but doable. i don't remember exact details but it is something like a ledge right near the ceiling.
and the reason i barely remember it is i solo'd it elite on a lvl 18-20ish toon (no big feat, i know. killing stuff was easy) and i NEVER set foot in there again... :-)
at least not until i TR again...

I remember the first time I soloed the pit...it was because everyone kept saying it was impossible to solo. That was the whole reason I made the youtube series demonstrating how to solo it (way before hirelings and what not).
No matter how much time passes, though, soloing the pit is a nice accomplishment, so congrats to you!
Here's the video breakdown of soloing the third furnace

I have to imagine that half of the time was spent in the third furnace room jumping on everything he could reach and swearing at the screen because "there's no freakin' way up there!!" :D
kudos for figuring a way to get that third furnace if indeed you didn't look it up.

It will be a LONG time before I attempt that again!
I solo it (w/ hireling to pull a lever in 3rd furnace) often, takes about 30-45 min pure run depending on difficulty and class. I did do it on casual with a 6th lvl char 1 time, that was a little painful but managed.
Gratz on getting it done most try 1x and give up, I like to take people in on a guided tour often, but find its easier to farm muckdoom if i solo it, then invite people in to pop chest.

It is a good attempt for the first time. But once you know the quest well, you can solo it on Normal @lvl6-8 and Hard @lvl9-11. Very good xp at these levels when you cant find something to do.

Congrats to the OP!
I try to solo this on my TRs on normal at character level 8, then again on hard at character level 9. It was 39 mins on normal and 45 mins on hard last time, I was a bit rusty.
The end fight is very tough for the level, you need to be careful!

Grats to the OP. Doing it when you don't know where you are going is nice no matter what level.
I've solod it many times, without hirelings. It's my favorite quest. I often do it 7 or 8 times in a row to level from 7 to 8.
I've done it on normal with a level 6 bard and on a 6 battle cleric. And at level 7 with a fighter and on a barb.
I've done conquest and all optionals in 45 min.

Gratz OP, it is one of those quests that give you a feeling of pride and accomplishment the first time you solo it. I know it did for me now it is one of my favorite and always use it to boost my characters to lvl 9-10.
Good job!

To the people demeaning the OP: Seriously, back off, it mightn't be a big deal to you, but figuring out the quest and completing it solo isn't a bad accomplishment for a new player.
Congratulations.

The fact that this is an achievement is just plain silly.
Ranger 8, MOD 4, 26 minutes. 2nd run of course. First was 41 minutes thanks to that god awful puzzle.
Not an achievement.
Figuring out the wheel puzzle really ticked me off, since I am colorblind. The rest was a breeze with a set of Greater Bane repeaters.
I found out about Jubilex a few months later...

Absolutely.
It's a must-do solo!
Bring: Jump 30 spell, LOTS of self healing(Cure Serious at the very least), resistance 20+ and long range weaponry(or some really badass Greater Reptilian Bane weapons). The ooze become a pain but are easily handled with Muckbanes or a Shining Devastation.
Edit: Resists you will need: Acid, Fire, Electric, Sonic, Cold(for good measure)... just hit the House P guy and rush to get it done before the buffs run out. My Monk 7 got it done with nearly 7 minutes left on his, but he chugged Haste pots the whole time.

Thanks everyone. I know it was a lot longer than some people take.
I have only run it twice before, both times having no idea what everyone was doing.
The second time, I told the leader that I appreciated the fact that were we getting it done (on elite by the way) but I STILL had no idea what to do the next time.
He said: I am not going to waste my time telling you what we are doing, solo it on Casual and figure it out yourself, so I did.
I spent a lot of time wandering around trying to figure out where the next green lights were for me to take care of. Also a lot of time jumping around on pipes, falling off, and doing it again, all the time not even sure if I was headed in the right direction! SOme of the time was also trying to figure out some of the puzzles. Man, some of those are hard. And at the end, I finished eveything (even tried for Mucks Doom) and it did not finish! I had to go back to the puzzle on the floor where you have to light up the four different light puzzles. I apparaently figured it out enough to open the next part, but did not light up ALL the circles. Had to go back to that and light them all up to finish the quest! That took a while to figure out what I had not finished too.
The jets took a long time to figure out. As I said i did not bring the hireling out untll the last fight soI did those myself. I just turned the levers, turned around REAL quick and jumped on the jets. I used haste on some of them. Again, that took a LONG time.
I think I answered all the questions above.
Again, thanks for the support!
:D

I've done both - Korromar is more difficult mob-wise, the Pit just taxes yer patience if you've never done it before.

My first two times in with groups were total wipes and I almost swore off the quest. Then saw this thread and decided to run it with a hireling and my 14 pally (kinda thought he would be nice and safe behind his protection from energy buffs to give me time to learn it). I took three hours falling off pipes, missing pipes, jumping too far, etc..., but mapped the whole thing out. Then put it to the test with an 8 rogue and hireling. The end fight was a bit rough, but completed for 14k xp. Long and short, thanks for the inspiration and a well deserved congrats.

Personally, the fact that they are just such different experiences is what I enjoy best. After I've ransacked The Pit, I'm always ready for some Caverns of Korrimar action.

Soloing it is the only way to really learn it IMHO. Most groups either don't know it at all, and end up disbanding, or have someone in group that knows it well and they'll hit all the necessary switches quick so you won't learn anything.
The hard part is the third furnace. You either need a character with good jump and a jump pot, or some jump cookies from the festivus jester, or do the first steam lift in furnace 3 until you get lucky and get thrown extra high.
Some other really really useful items that will make things go smooth:
boots of springing (as good as you can use at your level)
feather falling ring (can go without, but it's a lot harder)
poison immunity/PAP clicky/PAP wand (so you don't get slowed by trog stench)
pair of muck bane/doom (for slime beating)
a rune chart for the security room (I made my own)
ranged weapon, preferably a thrower (for ranging the casters in the end fight and furnace rooms, from outside spell range) bows are fine but I tend to forget to refill and run out of ammo :-p
After I learned this it became one of my favorite quests. I solo ran it about a zillion times on my first fighter til I got a pair of muck dooms.

congratulations. with or without a hireling, that quest is insane if you don't
know all the locations.
pay no mind to those who give much faster times for finishing it solo.
5 hours and 41 minutes shows a true commitment to getting it done.
(or it might show a little bit of an obsessive personality:))
If you re-run it a couple more times, you'll notice the speed increasing dramatically.

You completed...that's what really matters, and being as it was your first time that is a great achievement. This is the kind of merit I wish a lot more new players had......who cares if your over-leveled, who cares if you bring a hireling, who cares if it took you ten hours......it builds skill, and self sufficiency. I also noticed you and your hireling didn't die.....nice...as there are a lot of ambushes in that quest.
Good Job! OP :)

To the OP kudos for your determination to complete what many consider the most confusing quest in the game.
I did a similar thing a while back and learned the pit by going solo with a high level. Once you learn the floor plan it's easy and good fun (not to mention fantastic XP. 2k xp for killing Jubilex too!).
I made a mini guide on it on the old codemasters site:
http://community.codemasters.com/forum/guide-library-1169/319847-pit-how-i-learned-stop-worrying-love-pit.html
Also somethign funny happened to me in furnace 3 a fe days ago. I jumped on the first jet and a lag spike hit so that I reached the top using just one jet :) Fortuitous lag!
