OK, So whats up with the boats?

I've been taking some time off of DDO but recently read a bit about the boats.
SO I guess a guild can buy a boat and put some decor and NPC's in there and that's all I know.
I think I read that you have to go to a tower to get in the boat but then what?
Where do you end up? Up in the air way above the city (like when the teleport fails)?
Where can you go? Do you teleport or does the thing move?
How many people can fit?

Can't answer all of these questions, as I've only recently been invited to a guild that has a boat.

But, it's like guild housing, only cooler.

To board your ship, you get on at an airship tower (I think you can teleport there, too). From the boat, you can be dropped off pretty much in any public zone at the corresponding airship tower I believe.

The boat is flying over water when you're on board. Just for giggles, I jumped off the boat to see what would happen. I wound up swimming in the Harbor by the lighthouse.

That's my limited experience with it.
