As title said, for level progression, which levels should I take Paladin (or Rogue) levels for dwarven intimitank (swalwart defender) build? Does it matters? If so, why?

PS #1: Do not argue about the Paladin VS Rogue please :)
PS #2: I have very little knowledge about fighters and paladins.

Rogue at level 1 for the skills... then level ~8-10 so you can use all of your skill points right into UMD.

Paladin, doesn't really matter. Do you want the saves earlier? or do you want the fighter damage/special abilities earlier?

If you are going for rogue skills (which I just do not see as a fighter really) then yea, you gotta go rogue one.

However, I would only take it for umd (evasion if I was a non-armor wearing fighter) so taking it later would make more sense to me. I would rather get the 6th, 12th, and possibly 18th level PrE first.

At 17 you would have 10 UMD...one level of rogue gets you some 10 points of skills, 2 will get you 20... You only need 13 more for the UMD top rank, leaving 7 for those 2 levels for intim/jump/balance... Taking rogue earlier means you are spending lots of fighter skill points doubling down every level.

Now, if you want evasion and plan on using it, taking a level at 7, them maybe 14 would be fine..

if you want rogue skills....well, I can't tell you how that would work..I just do not see it working out with 2 levels.

Against the grain, I know, but those two (or three if human) fighter feats at first level, 1 at second, and 2(?) at fourth are much more powerful for me than a few extra skill points in spot, listen, swim, or haggle... And I like getting 4 for intim.

Paladin? I would do it after 12th level fighter is obtained for my PrEs...depends on when you want to start raiding..

personally, I would just take any extras at 19th and 20th...just to see how your toon works and to get full benefits of any PrE's as soon as possible. The extras are just extras, why lose out on your most powerful Tier III PrE for a side level in another class?

Thank you very much for the suggestions. I'm going to do some math ;)
