Carnifex vs. Frost of PG

So I've seem lots of people saying in great axe threads about carnifex being one of the better weapons to use when you can get it.

o.k. so its been 3 people but that seems like its darn near unanimous on these boards.

So my lvl4 dwarf soon to be kensai Great axe build (simplicity! http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=265316&highlight=simplicity) I'm looking to sling a big axe. I grabbed a frost of pure good from the AH for a silly low amount the other day.

Obviously for a fort mob like undead the FoPG is the way to go but for everything else?
I'd like to see the math if you could so I can get a handle on it so I don't have to ask for someone to do the math again in the future.

besides I ran a pug group of 1st timers through the pit today with my acrobat and two muckdooms dropped and none had my name on it , so i can feel the karma building.

IIRC carniflex is a +2 keen greataxe?

over 20 swings the FoPG gets 18 hits, 1 crit... carniflex is 17 hits 2 crits

(1d12 +x) *18/20 + (3d12 +3x) *1/20 +2d6 =
5.85 + 9/10 * x + .975 + 3/20 * x + 7 =
13.825 + 21/20 * x

Carniflex
(1d12 +x+1) * 17/20 + (3d12 +3x +3) *1/10 =
6.375 + 17/20 * x + 2.25 + 3/10 * x =
8.625 + 23/20 * x

So when 13.825 + 21/20 * x > 8.625 + 23/20 * x the FoPG is better (assuming you hit on a 2)

5.2 > x/10

So when x (your damage modifier) is less than 52 (always at that level) the FoPG is better

Now for some reason I want to say carniflex used to be 17-20 /x3 (maybe it still is idk...) but I'm pretty sure the last one I pulled (couple of weeks ago) was just +2 keen...

Carnifex is definitely still x3 with 17-20 crit range.

Carnifex will be better than random loot axes except for the very best random ones that have been Risia Icy Bursted (example: +1 holy pure good risia icy burst min level 6).

if i recall the numbers right, the only axe that comes close to carni is maelstrom, and thats on fort mobs

Carnifex is so good that you're better off weilding your Carnifex against some enemies instead of a Mineral II Shroud crafted Greataxe.

...probably more enemies than people might realize.

If the mob can be critted, Carnifex is the best. Otherwise, go with frost of pg.

When you read the stats on a weapon make sure to see the crit range on it first.

after the carnifex the best weapon is the Sword of Shadow unless the enemy has DR, such as devils, full Pallys can still use the SoS against most devils (except for raid bosses, then you need it Epic with silver)

my best chance to get the SoS was spoiled because a Sorc took it out of the chest thinking it was vendor trash, he also didnt understand much about crit ranges.
