View Full Version : TWF Monk - How do I get the most off a monk splash?

Dear Monk forum, I think this is my first post here. Currently, I am thinking about some Ranger/Rogue multiclass builds with a monk splash, with no fixed numbers on the levels. So I do have to apologize for scrounging your expertise. :)
I know that the most interesting weapons for those builds are Khopeshes and Scimitars/Rapiers. Unfortunately, none of these weapons are actually monk weapons.
Which of the monk-compatible weapons (kama, Long sword, short sword, am I missing something?) for twf are viable? Which particular Levels, Feats, Stances and Enhancements allow me to make more of a level 1-7 monk splash?

The one that will most likely give you most damage output is unarmed (+12% unarmed speed). <6 wind stance will give 2.5% double hit bonus +2 DEX, -2 CON, Fire Stance +2 STR -2 WIS(and extra ki gen). If you get the 2nd teir of them, it's 5% and more ki respectivly.
The most commen monk splashs I see are monk 1 for the +WIS to AC (and in one case the unarmed ability), usualy in 18,1,1 builds. See the ranger forums Exploiter Build for the Ranger/Rouge/Monk. This actualy uses Khopesh and forgoes the stance.
There have been a lot of builds trying to get a two ki weapon monk build... I personaly don't think it can be done effectivly. Unless the situation calls for it, unarmed's speed, or Khopesh generaly wins out.
Where needed to break DR, people used kamas, and that can be replaced with shortwords if you have the ninjaspy PrE, which is worth taking on it's own.
I need to cut this short so it's a wee brief and unexplanitory I'm afraid.

monk splash options
1 for wis bonus to AC and tier 1 stances plus unarmed of 1d6 for beating on oozes and he like.
2 for evasion and animal style enhancements (turtle for hp, monkey for resists)
3 for fist of light or fist of darkness and their associated finishers
4 for 1d8 unarmed
5 for +1 ac when centered and disease immunity
6 for tier 2 stances and ninja spy for dark path if you want the extra sneak attack damage and shadow fade. but by this point if your looking for sa damage you would be better off taking more rogue.
7 for wholeness of body
this is the most monk splash you will see. if you go 8 monk well you might as well go full monk. It is 1d10 unarmed and you are drunk with monk uber power.
for weapons in general you hands are much better unless you can't pass damage reduction then you reluctantly take up another weapon. or if you need a special effect that doesn't come on handwraps like vorpal.
Most common monk splashes are 1 and 2 monk but clerics and casters sometimes go 3 to get evasion and the light path finishers for the spell point reduction finisher (water, light, water)

I haven't looked closely at this recently, but I think you should only splash one or two levels of monk into any build, any more will be a significant compromise. there are a few different spash builds worked out, just look in the ranger and rogue forums.

To me, once you hit 6 levels (enough to take a PRE) you are no longer splashing, you are multiclassing.
