I'm a level 20 human cleric. I can't decide which would be better:

Epic Kundarak Warding Shield with Good Luck and Toughness augments
(http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s220/jgould2005/DDO/Unlimited/Items/Shields/EpicKundarakWardingShield.jpg)
or
Upgraded Light and Darkness with True Neutral alignment
(http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s220/jgould2005/DDO/Unlimited/Items/Shields/LightandDarknessUpgraded.jpg)

I have the other possible blue/violet augment bonuses on other items, so those shouldn't be changed. Do the DR 3/- and 5/- bonuses stack on the L and D shield? Not interested in Lorrik's Champion as I only use that for the Panacea clicky ATM (will have Superior Dev VIII elsewhere.) Nevermind getting both as I'm an f2p player and also have to decide whether I want to farm for the VON or IQ packs from which each comes, respectively. (Not to mention the L and D shield would be a hell of a lot easier to obtain because no epic stuff is involved, but don't factor that into your answer - would like to know each shields' credibility as is.) Which would you use and why? Thanks. =)

Keep in mind, to upgrade the Light and Darkness, you will need to purchase the Dreaming Dark pack.

Like most DR, the bonuses don't stack.

As for deciding which pack to buy. VoN has a lot with low level quests, a raid, and epic difficulty, but IQ/DD is the best place for super quick high level xp and has the mindsunder loot.

I personally prefer the staff of the petitioner from the abbot raid, which precludes use of a shield. It also has the side bonus of keeping you centered for all the Clonks out there.

Light and Darkness is easier to come by, easier to upgrade, and will get you from 18 to 20 to acquire.

The epic shield can only be obtained at 20, so it wont help you level, its hard to build, will take time to farm the pieces, and even longer to craft out.

Epic Delving is slightly better, but requires 20x the grind compared to Light and Darkness.
For now - get Light and Darkness.... then once you're ready to run epics, there are a number of items you can try for.

You could always just dual wield items as well - maybe make some nice Greensteel for your off hand

Epic Dragon Shield IMO. That's what I'm going for at least. I'm putting +2 Luck in the slot. Only miss 3 DR when blocking(if you use either of the Hound Shields). Plus not alot of S&B users out there....so I don't think the grind is that bad. I only need Shard to update mine and I didn't run Dragon at all till it went Epic. Plus alot more Epics run then IQ quest I think....not sure though. Hope that helps a bit....Good Luck!!!!

Yeah, by IQ (Inspired Quarter) I was referring to Dreaming Dark. I thought the DR bonuses didn't stack, but since they are both still listed on the item when upgraded I just wanted to make sure, thanks! I could care less about the xp since I'm already level 20 and am interested solely in which is the better shield (didn't want that to factor into the answers). I'm not sure which you endorsed?

I was under the impression that this item no longer dropped in-game? At any rate, I am interested in the +6 resistance offered by either shield, amongst other things, and would prefer not to have both hands occupied.

Leveling/xp isn't a factor for me since I'm already level 20 and don't plan on leveling/re-leveling any other chars. Let's pretend time isn't an issue in crafting/obtaining either shield and its parts: would you say epic kundarak is the better shield?

Re: Goldeneye and soupertc. I guess that's two votes for the epic shield then, thanks. =P I run a lot of epics in Demon Sands already - just can get somewhat annoying, true enough.

At any rate, I am interested in the +6 resistance offered by either shield, amongst other things, and would prefer not to have both hands occupied. It definitely still drops - they just improved it over the old version (I looted mine about a month ago now, with the newer stats I linked earlier). There are enough ways to get +5 resistance that I would never be fussed over missing the +1 of not having +6. There is a +5 resistance ring (with +15 intimidate) that also drops in the Abott raid, for that matter.

10% spell cost reduction is a pretty big deal when you're in heal-bot mode. If you think of it this way - if you have 2000 SP and burn it with the staff out, that's 200 SP saved. It also jacks your Destruction DCs by 2 and doubles as a spell penetration item.

IMO, it's worth getting on any caster, especially if you're a healbot and don't really need any other weapons out (Amrath belts for Ardor, ToD ring upgrade otherwise). The other buffs on it really do make up for anything else you'd have in your hands (double greater focus, spell pen 8).

Yeah the grind can suck in Epic(it's those **** scrolls!!!!). I've been one item away from alot of Epic Gear for sometime....but at least it keeps me working on something. Like I said earlier your gonna get the Dragon Shield pretty quick cause of the amount of Epic Von 6's that are run...plus your from a fairly large guild and a primary healer from the sounds of it in runs....so stuff will get passed to you. Don't let the grind of Desert scare ya away from Dragon......it is way easier to get gear from there.

Like Quik I use Levviks when I'm trying to regen mana....but once I get Dragon shield it's goin in the bank. With RS and a Heal Scroll from time to time you'll never have to dip into your mana if your doin that...plus with Bauble and Epic Spell Storing Ring(just shard away...pray to loot gods it drops for me soon) who the hell needs to regen mana!!!

Once again good luck....see ya in desert!!!
