Past Life Feats

I've been looking into a TR for my Ranger into a Monk, and I can't quite understand how you aquire the different past life feats. This is the way it seems to work to me:

Basic feat, granted based on the class you used to be before you TRed.
Extra feat, that you have to take as a feat.

Is this right? If I TR my Ranger into a Monk, will I have the feat for Past Life: Ranger? Will I be able to take Past Life: Monk feats?

you got that right, yes

and to take the active monk feat you need the passive monk feat which you only get if you TR a monk

Gotcha... So I guess I want to do a +5 LR and take my next three levels as Monk... Then monk will be my toon's main class and I have Past Life: Monk. Right?

(For clarification, toon is currently lvl 17 (12 ranger, 5 fighter) so I would +5 LR to 5 monk/5 fighter/7 ranger (weird I know, but I just want to get him to 20 for a TR) and then level him monk the rest of the way to be 8 monk/7 ranger/5 fighter. This should let me have past life, monk. Correct?
