Did they(turbine) give a reason for renown?

just was curious as what the cause was for disabling renown? where we earning to fast? and if we were was that gonna cause problems with groups getting to the ships fast? are the ships not ready for use yet? when will the guild renown be turned back on? seemed to be the most enjoyable part for me of the new update.. just some questions i would like the facts on. thank you for responses.

I was wondering this too. The only difference I saw from Lam to live was that there was no 'small guild' bonus being applied to renown. Not sure otherwise.

If I were a betting man, that's where I would put my money. Another reason why Turbine should make it easier and more attractive for more people to get on Lammania...too many exploits/bugs are discovered after new content goes live.

I took notice that the Khyber server crashes seemed to be at periods when guildies claimed to find large numbers of reknown. Shall I speculate? Most likely the server issues were due to reknown bringing it to it's knees.

That was temporary because it was not being properly applied to just small guilds, but rather everybody was getting the full small guild bonus regardless of the guild size (basically doubling renown). The devs said that it was not supposed to be permanently removed, and would be turned back on once the bug was squashed.

The calculations 0.15 secs after a death to check for renown is the new lag monster on the servers.

They'll make it so renown isn't gained in raids, to reduce lag!

Which is a backwards and stupid policy. If the ability to use the exploit is gone (since the system is shut down atm) and they are not restoring it again until the exploit is fixed telling the players clearly and honestly what went wrong will help relieve some of the annoyance of just having something randomly shut down.

Wierd I posted First reply on this thread and it now its gone. The Rumer i heard that few guild found some chest that are easy to get to that was dropping 500 renown a lot.

Just think DA gone wild...

With renown dropping from kills, the more mobs you can kill in a short time frame the more renown you can snag.

I would expect to either see renown more or less stop dropping from kills, or to see a handful of quests recieve a certain tender loving care with a nerf bat to kill those spawns...

10.38 PM Tolero announes that guild renown has been switched off.

Ring any bells? You add the two together and you can see that people were farming renown in the Abbot raid. Probably using some exploit. Then Turbine realises that renown was getting easier to obtain through other means. So they just switched it off altogether.

P.S. These are my wild delusions only and are not to be taken seriously.

We waited until 3am for servers to go live after update just to start our renown grind.
we managed to build a small total of only 1.5k rep b4 the service died,
its now 1am the following day and we have finally lost hope.

We intended to make use of the 20% xp bonus to mass grind levels for alts made just for this new renown feature.

My money is still on an exploit bug. If for some reason people weren't getting ENOUGH points, that would take forever to fix. But if people are earning too much, they have to slam on the brakes. Not that I disagree with such a decision considering the implications it has, but it seems the most likely possibility to me. Its a big secret but the reason we don't have gnomes in game is because they are all used to power the servers!

The whole time i was stone running in desert and even still today, every chest i opened made the game stutter, just a fraction of a second it seemed. To me it seemed like it was rolling to see if i got a yummy.

Opening social panel still causes a burp today, regardless of what i turn off, tho honestly after the first time when i log on a character, it sometimes wont. But that first time i open it, it hiccups.

I suspect they were seeing some pretty ugly things up there in HQ land and it was knocking the client dead.

Just my absolutely worthless thoughts...

We dont know what animal type you folks have running Thelanis but it sure does crash alot, perhaps instead of making major changes to the game only to have them go awry, bring out a mod that actually fixes the bugs instead creating more?

They are not discovered after but during Lamania. We saw this as the shroud went live and guilds which had peeps on Mourneland were exploiting part 4 and 5.

Problem is there will always be those who will not report the exploit, rather use it to gain for themselves until the bug is fixed.

Which is odd because...and its been a loooooong time, but ive always been under the assumption that loot is generated once you enter instance, not once you open the chest.....i honestly remember reading that somewhere. Now its entirely possible that "loot" and "other stuff" is separate, but i dont remember that being said....I cant really remember, i should probably do some searching.....

Bad memory leak, caused a ton of lag..so they started turning off various new update items to help
pinpoint the offending items.

as for turning it off due to guilds getting an unearned bonus...nah, that is not critical and could
be fixed next scheduled maint.

super server lag...ok thats a prob worth shutting it down.

The first thing i thought about when i saw the way renown was working was people spamming a certian respawn portal that can blow kill counts though the roof if done right.
