View Full Version : Successful non-Assassinate sneak attacks once again break stealth

Is anyone else a little ticked off about this? Especially Assassins who tend to spend a lot of time in sneak. I have been playing mostly rogues for the last 1.5 years. My favorite is the assassin path.
I fight in sneak mode a lot. It is very annoying to have to stop and click sneak again every time I hit a mob. It is even more annoying when I get found when my attack breaks stealth, and most annoying when I can no longer assassinate because I have been found.
I really have to wonder what the devs were thinking. They have totally ruined playing rogues for me. Is anyone else out there with similar thoughts? I would love to hear ( and show the devs) others opions of this change.

No, I love this change.
Now I'm not stuck in stealth mode after attacking a mob until I can either manage to hit the button or they hit me. Sometimes both would happen, and I wind up back in stealth mode for another second.

It's not just "successful" non-assassinate sneak attacks. As long as you get an attack roll, you break stealth (that is, even if you miss).

I love this change.
No longer will I see rogues attacking at a ridiculously slow attack speed just because they like to stay in stealth during combat.

yep
why would you attack in sneak mode if not for assassinating? your attack speed is only about half as fast as when you are not in stealth...

I don't mind it either, but what about those rare occasions where you sneak attack a critter and it dies in that one strike? Then you want to back up and wait for his buddies to come and check out why "Phil" is lying on the ground bleeding. Then you want to stab "Steve" and "Roy" with a nice 2wf sneak attack.
Now, is it every sneak attack, even the unsuccessful ones that make you leave stealth? If so, then ya, I can see where the op is coming from.

now you have to bluff them around corners and kill them

Huh?
while you are in stealth you attack much much slower. and assuming you are not soloing you don't need to be in stealth to get sneak attack bonus, you just mustn't have aggro of the monster.

you mean SA is functioning as it should? yeah, that is a problem...

It is a pity that they took away a nice playstyle with this change. :(
I group together with several rogues as a static group. This change will make sure you are seen by other monsters who are standing a little bit further and therefore changes the possibility of doing the quest mostly stealthy.
It is not that turbine is against a playstyle like that, because they did make it now possible to use traps now. I do hope they work good enough so we don't have to stop with the group.

:D
I play an assassin, and while it was a little awkward at first, it made me stop and strategize for a minute.
You'll get used to it.
Or not.

Don't know if you're referring to the premod but stealth mode didn't actually affect attack speed. You swung both weapons at the same time instead of the swing swing motion which worked on a different timing.

That double swing while stealthed resulted in less swings per second, and less mobility, than you would get by swinging normally out of stealth. Fighting while stealthed simply lowered your DPS.
Also this is going back to how it was for the first 3+ years of the game. Staying stealthed while attacking was a bug that they are just now getting around to fixing.

It was good how it was, you didn't pull aggro and come out of stealth until your victim confronted you or those nearby heard him cryout and seen you do it.

IMO, this is the way that stealth/SA should be.
you can still be just as stealthy, just now it takes a little more cunning.
think of it this way, say you walk up to a group of people unnoticed, and stab one of them. what are the chances of the other people in the group not seeing you?

Yup. W A I.
I am quite excited about my Rogues. I have an assassin, and I just rolled a mechanic IMMEDIATELY after the update finished downloading. She's all kinds of WIN!

When you are capable of standing in front of someone and you are not being seen, then it is possible to stab someone and not been seen by the one who is standing a bit further, because the creatures you attacked already knew where you where before update 5.

"hello foot, you are mighty delicious."
after doing a bit of testing with some of the functionality of sneaking and sneak attacks, i have to say that the way it was before was much better, but could still be improved.
the way it is now, you cant use a thrown weapon as a distraction to make a mob walk away so that you can stealth past. that is a very key element to being stealthy. i think i might actually take this to the feedback/discussion forums because i'm sure there are a lot of people who would agree.

When not sneaking, every swing gives a main hand attack and 80% to proc an offhand attack (with GTWF). While sneaking, you get one main hand attack with an 80% chance to get an off-hand attack.
You swing faster not stealthed than you do stealthed. Sneaking in combat lowers your DPS.

Have you tried making traps yet? First 25 parts i got I made 5 noise making traps.... Should do the trick to pull mobs. Haven't really tested it though, Still really excited to change my char from TA to Assassin/ninja spy. But kinda sad at the same time... Really gonna miss my TA Mogue. But alas as i progress farther into the game I find that the glancing blows and cleaves, while fun, are VERY detrimental to my health. xD
