View Full Version : Any chance for an ETA
I know you may not know yourselves or know the extent of the problems that cause the closure, but any details beyond "temporarily" would be appreciated.
IE - we've not found the problem and have no estimates
- programmers are working on a solution and expect to work through the night to have it fixed by tomorrow
- we expect these items to be resolved in our next patch.
etc
This post is not intended as a bash, but more info the happier people will be. Some might use any voiced long delays as fodder in bashing, but seeing that giving us more information will not actually delay when it is fixed (or speed up) the majority of us will be happier in the long run.
Personally I was looking forward to seeing all the renown and helping guild see what it all had to offer. As such I left most of my characters off timers & as prepared to help run whatever we found was best. Should I go back to trying to get 20s completions or should I stay prepared & do epic or lowbies instead?
Oh and so all you companies know, I take any time frame given and double it... its often more accurate :)
Thanks in advance!

Sorry, Turbine doesn't have a history of keeping customers up to date while issues are at hand.

Limited activity with extended periods of time before IBTL-ish threads go poof gives me the impression they aren't putting a lot of overtime into this... :(

I plan to take a week off of DDO. Very frustrated with the new Guild Favor system going offline already... But hey, it's summertime and there are things to do. I'll just get my 4th of July Celebration started early!

Cya in a week!Yeah so quick, wish there was some notification in game that renown is offline.
Also it's been 5 hours and not one word since on the renown. One of the biggest 'selling' points of this Update .. dropped the ball once again.
But I have to be thankful they didn't break my premium access. Thanks for not breaking more stuff ... I guess :)

Here is what I think will be the only ETA we're going to get:
Thank you for your patience.
Yep - TYFYP is the new Soon™.
Baffles me to this day why Lamania even exists....what exactly are they testing?
perhaps... trying not to be discouraged tho!

unfortunate, unless of course they are actually working SO hard they can't tear themselves away to post-up progress reports.
They have been 'about' today putting out some fires. But it did get quiet real quick. I'm hoping for the best. I have not tried to log in.
How large is the update, anyone? They fail to give that info out generally as well. I am on a 5gig/month wireless line now. It can be costly in terms of file size/bandwidth limits this early in the month.
+1~X Cutting insight.

The community relations personnel at Turbine don't actually code, so their only focus should be the community. Updating them, in and out of game with current state of the issue/s.

Which is exactly why limited activity from them is a bad sign...
If there is little visible activity from the people who are paid to keep these kind of situations from costing customers, chances are there's even less activity from the people whose jobs generally require more sleep.

Lamannia is no longer a "test" server. Listen very closely, or read I suppose, Lamannia is a PREVIEW Server. Mournlands is the Test Server, and it's by invitation only.
Hope that clears some things up for you.... ;)

Baffles me to this day why Lamania even exists....what exactly are they testing? It's not technically a Test Server - even though the way the Devs chat it up it makes it seem that way. Llama is a Preview Server, and as such has presumably gone through the testing phase on Mournlands. Giving feedback on Llama has really been like peeing into the wind for a long time. Pointless, messy, and really just makes a mess of things. Bugs found on Llama always make it to the Live build - so why bother talking about em. The Mournlanders should have already let the Devs know about these bugs, and often when they get reported on Llama, we're told that this is a Known Issue.
I think the problem is with the players on Mournlands, who are chosen by Turbine to be their testers. It baffles me what in the hell these people do over there.

That's a bit harsh, yeah? Scrolling up through this group, it seems they have some time in grade, or seem intelligent enough to be able to make that distinction. And I feel like if I could neg rep you I would(I tried), for being condescending and a touch rude. The premise here is that seemingly some very basic issues burst through like alien birth. And is it not feasible that some of this should have come to light before being published?
Not to mention, this is a quite tame thread compared to some of bile spewing taking place elsewhere.

I almost feel as if Turbine just chucked the new update to the masses who don't or couldn't test Lama to get a general reaction.
IMO, this was not the actual release of U5, it was a beta release. The real release will come in about a week or two after they figure out how much the intended changes will will effect their pocketbooks.
I'm not sure what the whole deal is, but to tell you the truth.....
If Turbine would have pushed back the release date all kinds of people would have been unhappy.
Turbine release the update but it's massively bugged.....all kinds of people are unhappy.
Somehow tho DDO can keep going and survive such instances, for all those here, just get used to it, u'll make urself more content and it's obviously Turbines business model. Turbine cares about one thing.....that it's being fed.....not where the food is coming from.
Am I happy about this current debacle, not really....am I going to let a stupid video game....well a really cool stupid video game....run and/or ruin my life?........not a chance in he**. heaven, or anywhere in between. Free yourself people...there are more important and meaningful things in life than DDO!

I heard renown was 'turned off' do to exploits.Of course, like Guild custom ranks were taken offline after they turned them on the first time many months ago and never bothered to fix. Like why the raid is offline. Distruption weapons, at least handwraps, don't seem to be working as intended.

Much of this was not reported on Lamania (based on how everything that gets reported tends to get discussed here by players too).
The trouble is that you have to debug the code. Then you have to implement it again on the live servers. Bugs also come in during implementation. And frankly, I think Turbine has a problem keeping their code straight. So they will debug stuff and get it working on Lamania, then accidentally roll out an earlier version to production.
I'm not trying to justify any of this. Just pointing out that Lamania has a purpose, even if there tend to be obvious huge issues when stuff is actually rolled out.

Turbine, like every other game developer, is probably inured to the whining that inevitably follows any upgrade, downgrade, new content, or changes to old content. A vocal group will always be upset by anything you do, because gamers are impossible to please.
Maybe we can focus on the things that -are- working. My Mechanic is currently awesome.

Alrighty then....my TWF FvS who didn't get any PrE's anyways is still awesome even with the TWF "nerf" :D

on the optimist side almost everything we did before, some new stuff, & clerics are less gimp
on the pessimist side less than before of what most people care about & very little of what we were told we'd get
sort of my point, stuff happens & you cant please everyone, just keep us up to date & in the wash we'll all enjoy it more
