How long do unused accounts remain?

I was wondering how long you could go not playing an account and still have it available. Do you have to log in every now and then or lose the account? I am going to be in a place for about three months without Internet, and I don't want to lose the work I've put into the characters.

forever..you wont lose any characters or items.

I had a few trial accounts from back in 2006-2007 and was able to log into them once DDO went F2P last year with no problem.
