View Full Version : @ THE DEVELOPERS - New DDO UI Skin Art Pack?

Dear lovely developers,

I've been trying to continue developing a couple of skins for the past month or so; in particular the Fade2black skin which is quite popular.

However currently there has not been an updated UI Skin Art pack released since Module 8, and as such, many of the new UI features are not customizable.

With DDO now being more popular than ever, are there any plans to release a new UI Skin Art pack, so that customization can be resumed?

As far as my research goes, it's not possible to extract the UI Skin Art pack from the installation itself unfortunately.

Thanks,
Sphinx

Yes, please release this! I love Fade2black. :)

Agreed. I would love to see a new skin pack as I've been using a modified version of Fade2Black that I edited myself to my tastes. Now with some major changes to the UI it would be nice to have a new skin pack to play with.

Indeed, but as Jeff told me before, DDO's UI will be changed (http://ddo-daily.com/ddo-getting-a-facelift), perhaps we will get a new UI Skin Art Pack along with it.

Just a suggestion if you are improving the UI. Might it be possible to update the UI to allow the skins to re-organize the UI similar to how WoW allows it. It is rather messy and cumbersome when you are a caster or someone who needs access to item swap, spell cast, ability use rather frequently in combat.

Take my cleric for instance. He is a Pure Wis cleric going for Elven Archer Prestige Enhancement. At level 6 I have 5 action bars open at all times just because its needed. :/

I'd personally like to see DDO release some "official" skins (made by developers under their employ) and put them pre-loaded in a UI Settings' drop down Skins menu for people who'd like a little-less-complicated/ease-of-access.

Maybe they could be themes that relate to the Houses? A green and purple House P skin, a blue and green House J skin, etc etc.

I'd especially like to see an updated, no-frills, all black skin like the Fade2Black skin. I loved the minimalist, clean look of it, and black is just smexeh.

Hope they release a TIMELY (hint hint hint) art pack for the skinners out there. In my perfect world Turbine would release a new art pack the same day the Update came out. (pokes Turbine)

As far as my research goes, it's not possible to extract the UI Skin Art pack from the installation itself unfortunately.

That's actually possible to some extent but it's hard. I can probably get full list of the supported images (ArtAssetID) but many of these are deprecated and not available in the client anymore (or refer to some yet unreleased stuff) and I have no idea how to find out which ones are good. Another problem is linking the image names to the actual gfx images... I was able to link some (~1280 images) but not all and so far I failed to find more (the list is ~1570 names). I will try to pack the ones I found and put a download link here in a day or two so you can take a look if it will help updating your skins. Unfortunately it's possible that skins support was not updated since module 8 and there's no way to link new parts of UI to external images and all the extras I see are just leftovers from development.

Ok here it goes... I have no idea if it's enough to fix your skins completely, but at least it contains updated versions of the images from the current game build + some extras unavailable in the previous pack (like the bags etc.). Not sure if any of the ArtAssetIDs that I left in .xml file are mappable at all, but if they are - I failed to find the images.

I would also like to see this happen. At the very least, I would like a sliding bar color bar that would allow me to change the color of the UI, that requires little programming, since you are just changing the number of the current values.

Ddo still has a ton of work to do on their ui, every other game has more built in ui options. Please give us more options

I'm sorry, but you're going to have to prove that one. All of the WoW UI options are third party programs. The default has less going for it than then way our UI looks when you first roll up a character. City of Heroes/Villians allows for three consumable bars and four powerbars. Age of Conan offers four hotbars only, and you can't even move the map unless you download a third party extension. Everquest and EQ 2 are in the same boat as WoW, lots of customization...from third party sources.

Do not confuse download-able add-ons with built in options. From the dozen or so MMO's I've played, DDO's interface is the most flexible. It's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but at least you don't have to download a dozen different programs to make functional.

functional as in searching through 40 pages of collectibles because the AH doesn't even have a search box?

Update 7 changes (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=271756): "We’re also busy working on a big overhaul of our UI, notably including some auction search improvements and a facelift of almost all UI panels"

Does this include an updated UI Pack? Will old UI Skins still work somewhat? Is this the improvement or death of the UI Skin ability?

I sincerely hope it does include a new UI skin art pack. Having recently gotten addicted to skinning, I'd be really disappointed if update 7 was a hindrance rather than a help to that endeavor.

I was interested in possibly making a skin but after skimming google I can't seem to find any downloads for the ui art pack, only references that one exists. Help?
