I am familiar with the basics of RPGs, having played many, but it seems DnD has several aspects that make it different from most, taking me back down a couple notches. Well, I've already got six levels on my fighter, before i decided it would be necessary for some feedback. I'm a fighter who is trying to get as many Hit Points as possible, and need to know some ways to acheive that. Here's a look at my character sheet:

Oshimar, Human Fighter 6
Health - 153 (+30 con bonus, +58 feat bonus, +5 Equip)
Spell - 0
AC - 25 +2 (+2 dex bonus [+4 max dex] +9 armor bonus, +3 shield bonus, +1 feat bonus)
Fortitude - 11 (+5 Con mod, +1
Reflex - 5 (+2 dex bonus, +1 enchanted bonus)
base attack - +6
Spell Resistance - 0
Fortification - 25%

Str - 16
Dex - 15
Con - 20
Int - 8
Wis - 8
Cha - 8

Since i can't log onto DDO atm i can tell you some of the feats i DO have

Diehard
Toughness I
Toughness II
Strength I
Strength II

Remember I'm looking for the best path to getting more HP.
Thanks

Having a high CON is advisable.

Maxing CON out is not.

Put the rest of your level up stat raises into STR. If you want to raise your HP further you can take the Toughness feat every third level from now on, and use the Fighter bonus feats to actually get better at fighting.

Go dwarf or warforged instead of human. They not only get +2 to con as a race, but they get a racial toughness enhancements, which mean a max of 40 more hitpoints provided you take toughness (and you do) as well.

As a front line melee...16 CON is good. Augment with items and you will be fine.

Splash a level or two of barbarian.

It'll open more toughness ranks, it'll give you more HP per level (for those levels), it'll allow a temp hp boost through raging, and complement the fighter abilities.

Or, if you're really more interested in HP than anything else, splash 20 levels of barbarian.

Splash a level or two of barbarian.

It'll open more toughness ranks,

It won't: fighter toughness enhancements will lock out barbarian toughness enhancements and viceversa.
