After a moderately intense argument in an abbot today, I am hoping for some developer guidance for the following question:

Is using Divine Intervention to complete the ice puzzle an exploit or is it not?

I can honestly see both sides of the debate, but a no kidding answer would definitely help clarify.

I personally dont see much of an issue with it...I mean if you can use DI to bypass an inferno why not the ice puzzle, but I also dont have an issue doing it the old fashioned way if it is determined to be cheating a game mechanic.

Discuss if you wish...and cheers to a civil conversation!

My position is that it's no different to using Haste, Jump and Featherfall to make it easier.

You are using your characters' abilities to overcome a set challenge.

Thats the position I take as well...but there is a significant argument as to whether or not it bypasses a game mechanic.

Some insight to developer intention would be the best way to clarify but for the record Im with you ;)

You can't always have a pure 20 cleric in the group, so it's more a convenience than a bypass.

At best, Divine Intervention should allow a character who falls in the water to be still alive when he returns to the main chamber. The stated function of that buff is to prevent death, not to continue swimming or avoid teleportation.

However, the game design of the Abbot "puzzles" is still far below their potential, so players can hardly be blamed for messing with it.

The ice puzzle causes death and the DI prevents it. I know the buff is supposed to be a one time good effect so I could see the buff being used up when you hit the water and if you jump in a second time (without DI) being dead.

Teleporting you back alive would serve little purpose as you would probably get smoked before you could accomplsh much anyway.

My guess, in a couple weeks it wont matter much. But still, this conversation is kind of like that 'sex talk' you don't have with your parents.

Why, is there some kind of change in U5 that I don't know about?

Well, I saw a video of a monk using the waterwalking ability to skate around in the main chamber.

Maybe that's it?

Nah man...if DI is an exploit a water walking monk sure better be too.
