View Full Version : Who should get the optic nerve?

I was playing my bf's cleric today because he wants to level her quickly and has had to work a lot lately. I went into invaders on auto-pilot, because I always do it with my toons in the hopes of getting an optic nerve. I pulled an optic nerve from the end chest. Both of us think that we should get the optic nerve, and to be fair to him I think we both have good arguments. Who should get the optic nerve?

One side note: I see optic nerves up on the AH (Cannith) for over 100k pp all the time. Do they actually sell for that much? One option we have is to just sell it and split the plat, but both of us would really like to use it.

You pulled it, it belongs to you.

Yeah it was using HIS character, but so what? You were doing him a favor leveling his toon for him. You get the optical nerve, he gets his exp and whatever ever vendor trash/loot you pulled for him. Win/win.

They sell for that much, although I don't know if specifically on Cannith.

Now, let me see if I get your dilemma:

- YOU, as a FAVOR to him, ran HIS cleric.
- YOU pulled the optic nerves, through YOUR effort.
- HE got FREE exp and FREE gold and misc loot from the chest without ANY effort.

This is how I see it: Not only are the optic nerves yours, but now he needs to also pay you for your time and effort in running his char, and for being an ... ... - say 10-20k plat sounds about right.

Roll for it. Winner has to help the loser get a silver flame talisman to compensate:

http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s220/jgould2005/DDO/Items/Necklaces/SilverFlameTalisman.jpg

Only downside to the talisman vs optic nerve is optic nerve will absorb disintegrate but talisman won't, but talisman will absorb or block every other beholder ray in their arsenal.

Just gotta flag for and then run Cursed Crypt 3 times in necro III and it's a done deal.

I use the talisman down in sub on hound runs and haven't died to a beholder down there in months :)

Wow! quite the variation on the old "your loot is Yours" thread/Theme.... since you need to live with your man in RL, maybe some payment other than plat would be better?

Now, now...let's not get ****y with each other.

When I got my girlfriend into the game, I knew something like this would happen. One day while at her place and she was gone off to work, I was upgrading her computer and logged on to her account to give her a hand. As a favor, as someone had already put it.:D And I got her a Ring of Feathers. I told her that I was gonna send it to one of my toons and she said "But its mine and I need one." I played her toon for her and I didn't get to keep it.

It was his account, his cleric, you were not obligated to play for him. It should be his.

But if you don't agree with me, roll for it. :D

They do sell for a lot or at the very least, you may be able to get some large ingredients for it. :D

Though this was a personal matter that probably shouldn't have been brought to the forums, if you really give a **** about each other, you can SHARE it!

My finace and I play this game alot. We live together and take turns paying for the accounts. IMO that means we BOTH own EACH account equally. Is it not possible to just take turns using it? I mean it would really suck to break up over a game, right?

If you can't make a decision and it really IS that important that you might kill each other over it, sell it and split the money.

I find it amusing because most couples don't play MMOs together, so you should both be glad you have something that you can do hours on end together, that is not expensive, it is great entertainment (minds out of the gutters people) and you share the interest.

Enjoy your new lewt! :)

personally i prefer the silver flame neckky, it doesnt burn its charged on every spell the BH lobs at you due to the handy deathblock.

as for who should have which, i'd look at who can fit the silver flame necky on the easiest. if one of you just cant swap your necky out for the silver flame one when facing a BH then they would get the most use from the optic nerves.

personally i'll even swap a +6 CON item out for the necky if i have to, it makes me a lot more durable vs a BH than all those hit points and fort saves. your main problem will be if you have SP linked to your necky, then the goggles might be better.

IMHO, you should get the item. From what I understand you were helping him level, not farm for beholder optic nerves. You don't owe him anything else besides the XP he earned. You did him a favor, now he should do you a favor and let you have the nerves. Relationships are like that.

That is a tough call, really, and could have some pretty serious relationship effects.

Tell you what, to make it easy, I'll just go ahead and volunteer to take it, for safekeeping, of course, till y'all get things sorted out, m'kay?

Man, I am such a giver to take one for the team like that... :D

I say it's his as it was his character who pulled the item regardless of if you were helping him level.
I guess I'm more "roleplayie". That toon picked it up, obviously that toon can use it, so that toon should keep it. When dealing with issues between players, I say concentrate on the character not the player.

But as others have suggested; roll for it if that's the only way you can solve this.

Sell it and split the cash.

That's also what people should do when they have babies and they can't decide on who gets custody.

The Optic Nerves also go on the neck slot.

As for who gets them, /roll sounds like the best option.

My hubby and I play together, but I usually have more time available to play than he does as he works a lot of overtime in his line of work. I often play his toons to do things for him as well, usually favor runs.

We're the complete opposite of the OP. If something nice drops we both usually say something like, "You take it!" "No, you take it!" "Well, okay, but let's try to farm another one for you then."

I guess I just can't imagine any game loot becoming so much of an issue with my real life significant other that I'd ask the advice of internet strangers to resolve it... :p

This is easy to solve, provided a few details:

If you’re a Blonde Australian SWF, 5’9”, 110 lbs you can feel free to level my characters who need TR’s.

You can keep all the loot you find along the way.

I’ll also let you clean my house and cook every meal.

If I played someones character, I would not want any loot no matter what I got. It is a game, the loot is free. You don't mention the server you play on. If it was Sarlona, I would help get you a second one.

This one is so easy.. what are you guys relationship newbies as well?

Whichever one of you gives the other the most sex in the next three days, gets to keep it. Trust me, this problem will solve itself.

I say bf should get them. You should explain what he won't "get" for awhile. Enjoy your new necklace.

If I were to play my wife's account she would keep whatever I found unless it's a mnemonic pot (she'd give it to me anyways.) As for anything else if she ran my account my account would keep whatever found unless it's something she needs (bloodstone for example, I already have one.) If neither of us can use it then we give to guild members or sell. I plan on trying to find enough bloodstones to not only give guild members each one, but also to sell so we can afford the bloody airship. My wife doesn't like playing a cleric though so she will probably never run my account. :P

D'oh! #slaps face#

thanks for the correction. spot the player who's never had a set :)

i was but a young padawan when that was an end game quest, and my first character was not very beholder resistance so i avoided the place. ahh well, i'm still happy with my 3 quest guaranteed silver flame necky :)

as for the dilemma, well, what classes are you both? so far one is a cleric, whats the other one? if the other is a ranger then get a weakening bow and let rip with manyshot, beholders arnt very scary when they have no STR left and cant cast spells.

Solomon Says:

The cleric can raise the other character if it dies, therefore the cleric is more important to keep alive during a beholder confrontation, and gets the necklace first. (Unless the other character can also raise AND is more likely to take the beholder down.) Then you both go get Silver Flame necklaces, sell the Optic Nerves and split the plat - or you both go grind for another Optic Nerves necklace. Either way, don't skimp on the make-up sex. :)

Tell him that if he keeps on insisting that he should get the optic nerve that you pulled because of your efforts, you will really start to get on his optic nerves.

for some reason this came to mind;

Who Wears the Pants?
Jack was going to be married to Jill, so his father sat him down for a little fireside chat.

"Jack, let me tell you something. On my wedding night in our honeymoon suite, I took off my pants and handed them to your mother, and said, "Here, try these on."

So, she did and said: "These are too big, I can't wear them.'"

So I replied: "Exactly. I wear the pants in this family and always will." Ever since that night we have never had any problems."

Jack thought that might be a good thing to try. So on his honeymoon he took off his pants and said to Jill: "Here try these on."

She did and said: "These are too large, they don't fit me."

So Jack said: "Exactly. I wear the pants in this family and I always will, and I don't want you to ever forget that."

Then Jill removed her pants, handed them to Jack and said: "Here, you try on mine."

He tried and said: "I can't get into your pants."

So she said: "Exactly. And if you don't change your attitude, you never will."

For the sake of not leaving a "looser" behind, i´d suggest to sell the item in the AH and split the money evenly.
