What I'm looking to do is lvl my first monk to 20, To make him a 36 pointer and then lvl him into a more Epic/End-game viable monk.

So I'm asking for a solid build to fucus on for lvling. I have made a Light path monk, but it was my first attempt at a monk build and hasn't really been all that fascinating for me. So I'm looking to go Dark path, playing the halfling race.

Since this first attempt to lvl 20 is strictly to re-incarnate, I think that maxing AC as I lvl would be in order.

If someone that has spent alot of time with the monk class could get me started with stat distribution and the best direction to take this build would be greatly appreciated.

My recommendation is to plot out just exactly what you want from your 36 point build character. There are other past life feats that may or may not be appealing to you. Fighter or Rogue immediately come to mind as being potentially more useful than the extra +1 damage you'll get. (Passive past life fighter will work with stunning fist DC)

As far as which is easier to level up, generally I'd say light path. But since you're a TR I imagine you've got enough plat that you could probably buy a big stack of cure serious pots and self-heal that way.

With the increased stat points you have I'd go strength build. You also will want to start collecting some other equipment to ease your leveling process. Greater bane handwraps can really help. Also, if you have the threnal pack you can pick up the fernian wraps there. (+2 flaming burst handwraps with no minimum level).

Maxing AC while leveling you should be able to accomplish simply through gear. I wouldn't expend a lot of effort into building the character around AC.

I actually used the thread to start my original light based monk, but it is rather vague advice and designed simply to ensure that newer players dont find them selves with a nerfed character, good help but not exactly what im lookin for in my build for leveling

And maestro Im not TR yet this would be my first character reach 20 my highest currently is a 16 lvl fighter.

So I'm asking for a solid build to fucus on for lvling. I have made a Light path monk, but it was my first attempt at a monk build and hasn't really been all that fascinating for me.I'm confused, how much did you play this monk? Does it still exist? Why isn't it possible to use it to level up to 20, since it apparently would have some sort of head start.

If you didn't play it very much, then you didn't really get the feel for a light path monk, or any monk. Not trying to talk you out of the switch to dark, that's a personal preference choice and it may well be better for you. I've got a light side monk, a light side monk/kensei II build and a dark side monk and they play very differently. But the one thing they all have in common is that they all come into their own some place around level 10, when ki generation and retention starts to get significant enough to use ki abilities frequently. Your monkliness is pretty limited until you can generate a lot of ki.. and that's difficult at low levels.

Back to your original question, its pretty easy to build a monk for leveling. The monk has pretty high survivability with almost any build. If you are only worried about leveling, I'd recommend a balanced build reasonably even distribution of stat points between STR/DEX/WIS/CON... Maybe shift a couple of extra points towards DEX as a halfing.

If I don't care about 20 due to tr'ing I make a 16/2/1 monk/pali/rogue. Halfling 32 pt 12 16 14 10 14 14. 4 level ups into str. Lots of good ways to burn up a tr life, this one with umd, ac, saves, occatioal smite fist to the head would be mine.

Sorry, get a little ahead of myself sometimes, this monk does still exist I use it sometimes but when I first made it all I did was use it. I originally made it because I had the Torn Chitin bracers just sitting in the bank and the sigils to craft it. So I made a monk to play with em and fart around on my downtime. I just made a pretty standard monk not focusing too much on anything. So the reason I am asking for another build idea from those who have lvl'd a monk to twenty, is because they will have better insight on which direction to head to make lvling less painfull. Also to make it so I can hold my own towards end game. Not looking to run epic or anythin like that just to get him ready for True-reincarnating.

Being that my highest character is currently only a 16 I really dont have much by way of elite gear, just a decent amount of plat, I guess.

I figured I'd save the mundane grinding for gear when I TR him and have the extra xp to lvl thing counting against him.
