What he means is that Monks get the quarterstaff as a finessable weapon, like a light weapon or so forth.

I know what he wants. I want an explanation for why he wants it. Why is it logical to do so?

He needs to tell us something else besides "because he wants it."

There's a finessable THF in the Titan raid. Not sure if it's a quarterstaff, looks kinda like one

There's also Breeze in the abbot, which automatically uses dexterity for to-hit and damage, and it is a quarterstaff.

Shining Crescents is a sickle, but monks remain centered while using it.

Shining Crescents...yes it's defined as a sickle. Sickles are light weapons which are finessable.

The why would be that he has a dex-based monk, and is for some reason diametrically opposed to unarmed combat.

While I'm all for boosting Quarterstaffs, as I study their use in real life, this does nothing. Dex-based monks are still better off with TWF, even if they only use Kamas instead of unarmed attacks.

True, but if they made all quarterstaves finessable, Breeze would lose some of its appeal.

Me and Hafael (sp?) had this argument in-depth 2 years ago, same time (April-June).

And a bunch of other people were in the thread too.

In the end I think we went, "Mreh...." Q-Staff could be finessable, but is a 2-handed weapon and utilizes Strength for bludgeoning strikes. The fancy blocking and speed isn't really attacks but set-ups and blocks. Spear work is similar as well.

While I can see why he's asking for the finesse, I leaned towards a No. Monks have been given their speed boost already. If Q-Staffs were finessable, the balance would be unbalanced big time. All Dex & Wis -- who cares about Strength when you can't bit hit, resist like crazy, have 470 hps, and basically have +ridiculous in line with a Barb to-hit. Damage reduction mobs would be the biggest threat, and even then... if you're sporting a wicked bonus to hit, speed to hit, good weaponry, awesome gear and a +100 ac with wicked saves, does it matter? Monk-paly-rogue would be incredible. Monk 6, paly 2, rogue 12. It's a good combo as is, but when q-staffed and acrobatted with max dex, wis, and high con you'd be whopp'n with the best of them.

And agreed. What Turbine needs to do is add more weaponry like this instead of give classes feats that never existed in pen and paper -- simply create more EPIC/ELITE items. Hell, call them Legendary Items even. Anything that gives a certain "splash class" the edge to be awesome.
