So I've been thinking about Guilds lately. Every time the guild charter goes on sale I almost buy one and with the next update theres been even more guild talk lately and people recruiting which makes me consider it even more (just so they stop recruiting me and my alts). However, why buy something if you're not going to take advantage of it? I have a couple names running amok in my head, but wouldn't mind seeing what others think of the whole process before I sacrifice my TP.

Guild Names, do they matter to you? Does it have to be funny, representative, powerful, or just abbreviate well? Do you join a guild because of their name?

Recruitment, does blind recruiting work? How many people do you get just because you noticed they had no guild and you invited them out of the blue. Are you more motivated to recruit by interacting with a guilds members or just their leader? Does an awesome PUG that lasts a few hours make you consider joining with that guild? How many people looked for a guild to join vs knew a guy who joined up with one so they followed too.

that thar be the best reason for someone to join a guild in all the reasons your musing over.

everything you listed happens, but what you want to happen depends entirely on what you want out of a guild. if you just want as many bums on seats then it doesnt matter how you recruit. if however you want to build a friendly family feel guild blind inviting is the worst way to go about doing it.

naming is down to personal preference.

if your not sure about the cost then either find a VIP to roll the guild up for you and pass on leadership, or try finding a guild that fits with your play style and join them instead.

This is good advice.

For free, any VIP can create a guild, name you successor, and then resign. That leaves you able to take over as leader of the guild without needing to buy a charter.

So all you need is one VIP friend or a VIP cofounder for the guild :)

On a note about Guild Recruitment, you should never send blind invites. While you will probably fill up your Guild this way, you set your guild up to have a bad reputation and you probably don't want that.

There is one exception to the rule of blind inviting though: If you run a quest or quest with a character, and then send them a blind invite either while out of combat or at the end. Some people might not like it of course as they might not realize that it is you sending the invite, but others will probably have the common sense to realize that 'your being recruited because someone liked playing with you' if they see that it your probably the one behind it. However, even in such an instance it would never hurt to play it safe and let them know that you want to invite them, or at least hint that your about to send one.

Much like blind party invites I'd honestly recommend sending a tell to the person to ask if they would like to join if you like running with them.

"Recruitment, does blind recruiting work? How many people do you get just because you noticed they had no guild and you invited them out of the blue."

While I never have tried to recruit someone I don't know, I get angry when a total stranger sends me a blind invite to join a guild I have never heard of. The one thing that POs me even more is blind invite to parties, for unknown quests.

A guild Name should match in some way the guilds personality.

A Raiding guild tends to go in for Short "powerful" or "loud" names.
Roleplay guilds tend to have somewhat longer names, and are more likely to refer to the Game World or some other Society.
Silly "just for fun" Guilds tend to have a silly name.

Blind invites do not work well in my experienice.

Which is where i'm torn as I have two personalities, the goof ball we're just here for kicks and a more libertarian experimental builds guild. (those are not the names, although Just for Kicks and Experimental Build Guild would be decent guild names) Although they are somewhat related they are totally unrelated in theme. As much as i'd like to join a friend of mines guild... the all caps (loud) nonsensical (purposeless) name really puts me off... If anyone VIP would like to sponsor a guild charter on Orien for me send a PM i'll discuss my plans in more detail to potential "investors".

Name was very important to me as it was a direct import from a PnP game I run.

Blind invites are, IMO, quite stupid. The least part about it is not knowing their playstyle, whether or not they're a D-Bag is far more important.
