My guildie had an idea... how about having a universal DDO account where you can earn or buy turbine points in either DDO or LotRO and they would be put in an account wide..er.. account? Perhaps it would encourage players of either game to try the other game, since you can get favor point awards which would apply in the other

I was thinking I'd try LoTR when it went F2P later this year.

I think it would be a great idea. In fact, they may plan on it, however they may wait until the F2P option on LotRO is settled and that a universal on e may be the next step.

but...

Wouldn't mind seeing such a thing, but I doubt it will happen. There will probably be too much source of obtainable DDO points at that point. Won't be good for business.

twice as many source of ddo points... and twice as many ways to spend it! it works out for turbine, too!

Don't think it will happen as the LOTRO people will have to dedicate alot of work and calculations (both equal in time and which converts to money) into balancing the prices for both DDO and LOTRO.

Also they will have to take into count the lifetime subscribers at LOTRO and how those "free" points may end up.

The problem is whats to stop the total F2P from harvesting Turbine Points Twice as fast that can be used on ONE game only?

I would agree yes it's potentially do-able, but I can see how people who don't want to pay at all can get enough points twice as quickly to play on only one of the games. Which the F2P model if it keeps points seperate can force players to be remain super frugal, or end up spending points.

Remember, Turbine is a money making business. They can give incentives. But something like this looks like that proverbial big whole in the bottom of Turbine's bucket and they don't want it unless they can force "DPS Lag" to stall you.

If Turbine is smart then Turbine Points will span both DDO and LotRO. Currently I horde TP specials for stuff like reincarnations. I would be way less frugal if I started playing LotRO too.

Sure people can earn favor from two games now but what does that mean? It means that it is attracting players from either game to move to the other one. This includes the VIP and Premium ppl. And that means more $$$ obtained from Premium players buying content in both games.

Assuming people can't play 2 games at the same time, it wouldn't be twice as fast.

Actually it will be. Each server on DDO can net you a good 200 DDO points first time. That's 1200 DDO points at least. I don't know what's going on in LotR since I don't play there, but if you can net the bonus points too, you can get packs in DDO for example. Burn more favour here and slowly build up favour on all toons. Get bored, jump over to LotR repeat favour grind, return, etc.

It's much more easier to do with two games and one currency. So either there will be a reduction in LotR of points obtainable, or even from both games. Or they will likely remain seperate game points.

This probably will not work, because of the Royalties that have to be paid out to Atari, and the Tolkien Family. If they were purchased by/for the account, not for a specific game, then how do you figure out who gets how much money?
