Easy choice, Wizard. You can switch out your spells at anytime for free and try them all. Sorcerer you have to wait 3 days and pay money to switch out just one at a time. Plenty of feats to choose. Sorcerers are usually for people who mastered/familiar with the casting class, since many of the choices you make, you are stuck with for the most part.

New to DnD and THis game? Wizard. As the guy said above me, you can try out every arcane spell in the game and find out which are good and which only SOUND good on paper. It is easier to recover from a charcter build mistake on a Wizard than on a Sorcerer. And cheaper too.

HOWEVER: I love Sorcerers. But I paid and arm and a leg to switch oout spells everytime new ones were added.

In terms of which class a new player to the game should choose - go Wizard. Sorcerers are as stated: For those familiar with the casting class; or at least, someone who can at least identify what would be needed through experience garnered through playing with spellcasters in game.

Mainly in terms of comparison -

Wizards: Can learn all the Arcane Spells and Swap them in and out at Rest Shrines and in Tavern. Can also benefit from Metamagic Feats granted to the Wizard class, and get Spells one level earlier then Sorcerers. Also have the ability to memorize more Spells then a Sorcerer can. The Capstone is extremely powerful in terms of reducing the mana the Wizard needs to utilize spells, and for greater spell penetration.

Wizards focus on the Base Stat of Int, which means they get a larger skill point pool to distribute. Additionally they can make use of the feat Insightful Reflexes to greater improve their Reflex Save. They may easily multiclass into other character sets that would make use of Intelligence or high Reflex Saves. As an example, Rogues are a commonly splashed class, due to the Trap Related skills being effected by Int and the benefits of Evasion.

Sorcerer: The Sorcerer gets more Spell Points then the Wizard, essentially allowing them to cast their spells more then the Wizard. They also get double the spell points granted by items such as Power #, Wizardry #, or Magi items, and the Sorcerer mana Enhancements are higher for Sorcerers then Wizards; further increasing the mana pool they can utilize. Perhaps most noticeably for the class is they increased casting speed for the Sorcerer. The Capstone is good for raising the damage output aspect of the spells a Sorcerer fires off.

Sorcerers focus on the Base stat of Cha, which is important to many social skills (including Diplomacy), but also for Haggle and Use Magicial Device. Similar to Insightful Reflexes for Wizards, Sorcerers can make use of a feat called Force of Personality, which will allow them to to greatly improve their Will Saves. They may also easily multiclass into other character sets that would make use the Charisma Stat. As an example, Paladins are a known splash for the Sorcerer, due to benefits of Divine Grace to further increase their saves

In terms of why Wizard is more favorable for you

You probably won't have the capital to be able to afford switching out the spells on a Sorcerer, compared to simply buying the scrolls and inscription material on a Wizard; this of course because you wouldn't know what spells are good or not. Additionally you probably might not understand the significance of the metamagic feats until you actually try them. More importantly though is that you probably won't understand the importance of conserving mana if you play a Sorcerer, which has so much mana available to it, or make use of the many lovely skills that the Wizards extra skill points would let you invest in.
