View Full Version : Voting on U5 with my wallet

Since i have been busy with RL lately (prepping for NCLEX) and not playing anyway, I turned off my DDO subscription earlier today after reading the list of U5 Lamannia changes.

A lot of silly and/or unwanted/unneeded changes combined with undocumented changes and a lack of developer feedback leave me with a lack of desire to play DDO again when I have the time to do so. Maybe the changes that go live will be different and I will change my mind, but Turbine generally pushes through whatever they put on Lamannia, so not much chance of that.

Mainly posting for guildies and people I play with regularly to give some notice of why I have been MIA lately. I have not yet decided to permanently quit DDO yet, but see no need to pay for a game I am not currently able to play due to time constraints when the changes in the works may end up with me not wanting to play even when I do have the time to.

Hopefully it won't be so bad and u5 will suck less when its released. Otherwise I'm going to have to find something to do with my free time when I have it again >_>

While you can obviously be unhappy with some of the changes, citing lack of developer feedback as one of the reasons is a Red Herring of the biggest size. There have been scores of posts by the developers on numerous threads relating to the new systems and effects. While you might not be happy with the feedback they have given, they have most definitely given feedback.

Congrats on your ADN bud! I'm preparing for NCLEX myself, just graduated this past May. Like always, I'm holding my review of this update till the final product is out, and enjoying good whiskey, friends, and family. Woooooooot! Good blessings in whatever you do bud ;)

Hopefully this is just friendly ribbing or whatnot. As an ADN graduate myself, I can assure you nurses do a whole hell of a lot more than that, and the emergencies have life altering and sometimes life preserving implications. Nurses are some of the most busiest people at work I have ever known. I Hope that educates you or makes you laugh if it was just friendly ribbing.

As an ex-motorcycle racer I've met my share of nurses...why are they all so ugly?

Except for that one that popped out of a cake that one time.

Thanks, I'll just file that in the "And i care why?" folder, which also happens to be conveniently located in the "Didn't ask for your commentary" drawer of my aptly named "Why are you in this thread anyway?" filing cabinet.

Because if one of the sources of your displeasure is not in fact true, but was more simply not noticed or missed, then perhaps that issue can be addressed by simply looking at the feedback from the developers (Dev Tracker on the selection bar above). You made it one of the center pieces of your post about why you are "voting with your wallet". I was trying to point out that in my opinion that portion of your why, was flawed and perhaps there were steps that could be taken to remediate it.

It is also a touchy point, since claims that they "never listen" or "never post" run the risk of being self fullfilling. Developers are people too and if all they ever get from coming or reading the forums are the negatives, then pretty soon they may as well stop coming by. In many ways was looking out for those of us who do appreciate the times that they contribute and address issues via the forums. That is why.

1. My opinion on whether or not the developers are responding sufficiently does not possess the ability to be either true or false, because it is my own subjective opinion and thus not based on empirical or objective measures.
2. I read the whole U5 TWF changes thread until it hit 60+ pages, and then cherry picked for developer comments for the rest of it. I do believe that I am fully aware of exactly how often and and when the developers post and able to have an educated opinion about the topic.
3. I have seen several different developer teams from several different companies in action. Turbine does not impress me with their posting tendencies.
4. People are more likely to post negative feedback than they are to post positive feedback due to basic human psychology of a perceived loss having a higher psychological 'cost' than an equal positive event will provide in psychological 'gain.' However, when the amount of negative feedback reaches a certain point where it is the vast majority of the response to a proposed change, then it is most likely a valid measure of popular opinion.
5. No, I am not going to go through the thread and count up negative and positive responses for you to find a ratio or attempt to put it off as anything other than my opinion. I care not nearly enough to put any actual effort into it.
6. If you want to support the developers, send them an e-mail or post support in the threads created specifically by them to gauge opinions on proposed changes. Trying to "offer support" for the Turbine Developers in a server-specific thread posted for the specific purpose of informing my personal server and guild members of my own personal reasons for potentially discontinuing my own personal DDO VIP subscription is quite... ineffective.

I wondered where ya'd gone too, figured you were just busy with work. can't say i blame ya man, I'm thinking that post update 5 I will no longer be purchasing any turbine points. I'm not leaving the game (yet) because my dumb ass went out and bought all the adventure packs and after dropping that amount of cash i want my money's worth dammit (besides I have yet to find another game that can hold my attention); but I'll be damned if they get any more of my money when they're so blatantly unwilling to listen to feedback they solicited. the whole process stinks.

good hunting, wherever you end up.

Been mostly playing Mass Effect 1 & 2 with free time while studying for NCLEX (which is on saturday >_>). May make an appearance on Cannith after all the NCLEX stuff is done, not sure who i'd play though since all of my main toons would be unavailable unless i spent points on em :v
