View Full Version : Please ban the term "Monkey Grip" from most DDO Forums

I most humbly beseech you, oh Forum Mods, to please ban the term "Monkey Grip" from almost all of the DDO Forums.
I ask this of you for multitudinous reasons but will list only a few below:
1) We will never see the Monkey Grip feat in DDO so there is no reason to talk about it except in the D&D Pencil and Paper Forum.
2) When certain powergamers bring it up, more often than not, they don't know what it really does and their explanations serve only to confuse many other forumites.
3) Often, these same powergamers bring up another similar "feat" called "Improved Monkey Grip" which they don't seem to realize there is no such feat in any official D&D 3.5 rulebook. They conveniently neglect to point out it's a "homebrew" feat and should, therefore, NEVER be brought up here in the first place.
4) This reason is akin to the 3rd reason. The next feat in the "Monkey Grip chain," if you will, is an Epic feat called "Wield Oversized Weapon" which IS in an Official D&D 3.5 rulebook called The Complete Warrior. There is a separate Epic Feats section in that book and Wield Oversized Weapon can be found there. Many of the aformentioned powergamers fail to realize the feat they really should be referring to when talking about the fake "Improved Monkey Grip" feat is Wield Oversized Weapon. By not doing so, the powergamers' disinformation only serves to confuse many other forumites even further and possibly causes THEM to repeat the disinformation.
So for these reasons, and others, I once again ask the term "Monkey Grip" be banned from all DDO Forums except the D&D Pencil & Paper Forum.

And MY point, thank you very much, is there are a LOT of us who are getting tired and frustrated with all the dang Monkey Grip-themed threads!
Most of the time the posters have no idea what they're talking about and even when someone like me comes along to try to straighten things out for them, they just don't get it or don't want to get it.
All they have are visions of running around with dual Epic Swords of Shadow in each hand and trying to "justify" why that wouldn't be game-breaking.
Seriously, can we just "forget" Monkey Grip even exists??

It historically wasn't an option. You can now gain this ability by selecting the new feat MonkeyGrip. Among its other advantages, it allows one to request topic bans on the forums :)

I think the confusion with PnP monkey grip and improved monkey grip and what they do is because the feats did completely different things in 3.0 and 3.5. In the 3.0 version you actually could run around dual-wielding great axes...
You have proved my point! You speak as if there ever was such a feat as "Improved Monkey Grip!"
Wrong! It has NEVER existed as an Official D&D 3.0 or 3.5 feat! The mere fact you are lumping it in with Monkey Grip (which really does exist as an official feat) gives it credence to the ignorant. Misinformation spreading mission accomplished!

If they ban the use of the word "Monkey Grip", they might as well ban the words "Power Throw", "Blind Fight", "Improved Natural Spel", "Druid", "Gnome", Half-Elf", "Changling", "Shifter", Anything to do with the Pen and Paper game, etc, etc. Until we can't talk about anything at all on the forums except to say, "DDO Rocks!" Except oh yeah, that got banned too!

my girlfried has Monkey Grip and it's great. she even has Improved Monkey grip - that's when she uses her feet.
so yes, Improved Monkey Grip is a feet. don't tell me it doesn't exist!

it's perfectly normal to be able to give yourself between 14 & 40 boosts to various stats and have weapons and items with so many bonuses on them that fizban's hat would spin
