i heard some garbage about 2 hand weapon nerf to fix slog lag. how about instead of screwing people out of their attack chances you instead give a ui option that allows you to ignore other player attack animations. no reason to look at a 18 armed 9 headed slog toon chopping away at something with too many hp. no just set it so it just stands still or apears to attack once every 5 attacks.
too easy guys. think more devs.

You think more, its not the animations. Its the fact that people are actually swinging, and the numbers are being sent (I'll leave it at that. No need to elaborate). Go ahead and turn off other player's contributions, if you like, and go solo a raid, but as long as other people are contributing, there will always be the possibility for DPS lag.
Your post is not only a bad, misinformed suggestion, but also insulting to our devs, who, although occasionally make mistakes, want the best for this game.
PS I thought rep farming posts were against forums rules. Neg rep is still rep, isn't it? ;)

It has nothing to do with enemy animations and everything to do with the calculations required behind the scenes.
Do yourself a favor and read through the 45 pages that this thread (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=251248) has spawned today if you'd liek to understand the situation a bit better.

Hmm. I was going to Neg Rep this post for providing misleading information and being incredibly short sighted and inflammatory but.....It appears i've neg repped Denx...I mean Blackyligar sometime ago.

I had no idea you could post with that many red boxes. Really makes me wonder why they bother to have the system on at all.
Anyway, OP there is a discussion thread on this topic already. A big one. One being read by devs who are commenting in it. If you actually have something to say that you want anyone at Turbine to hear, post in that thread.

Not a problem. If Turbine offers any kind of respec to folks, then the Tempest Rangers who will suffer the most under the new regime can just respec to Arcane Archer.
Everyone knows that Arcane Archers can lead a party's kill count and contribute more DPS than the rest of the party, so this is an ideal solution.

well:
a) do you even know what they are doing?
b) in before the lock
c) the dps lag is primarily in the background / behind the scenes / under the waves.. get the drift?

troll and hater, nuff said.
there is no way the numbers from the dps attacks is causing the lag.
1) every player doesn't get every other player's numbers.
2) most numbers can be set to not show already anyway
3) a better solution, if numbers were even the case anyway, would be to add a ui setting that players could ignore their own numbers.
no plainly the lag is caused by the attack animations and players on older computers and the server trying to sync to each player.

You do realize that every check result that gets parsed by the server has to get sent out to all of the clients, right? It's not so much the visual of the number (which is generated client-side most likely) it's the multiple calculations that take place each time something happens and 6 guys, many swinging multiple weapons, with pets, spell effects, buffs, multiple chances to spot hidden, save against attacks, etc. engaged in combat with 6 NPCs all making the same checks being processed and sent to 6 machines repeated 10,000 times for every group logged in to each server does produce a lot of potential processor strain.
If you can reduce the amount of calculations involved in each action, it will exponentially reduce the amount of processing power the servers need to do, and thus reduce lag.
