Except I'm REALLY clueless, considering that I played for maybe 15 minutes total, as a ranger which will be scrapped, as I don't feel comfortable playing a ranged char with the battle system. At least, not until I learn to move around properly.
So, I read this huge post that sounds like just what I want... but how do I do it? I'll quote it here and interject my questions. Hopefully, someone will take the time to answer. I was really impressed by the community in-game :D
The Dark Blade (http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/Path:The_Dark_Blade) (L19 Rogue/L1 Fighter)
Concept: Good damage dealer, decent survivability, and of course able to take care of traps and locks.
Original path's flaws: No Power Attack (leading to a serious lack of DPS when unable to sneak attack), no Toughness (rogues are somewhat squishy), Weapon Focus instead of Oversized Two-Weapon Fighting (the latter gives an extra +1 to-hit in the common situation of dual wielding non light weapons).
Main fixes: Revised feats for better damage output and survivability.
Multi-class progression (http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=2802884&postcount=18) <- click for more info: Create your character as a Rogue, then take your second level as Fighter, then levels 3 to 20 as Rogue.
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral, Chaotic Good, Neutral, Neutral Good, Lawful Neutral, Lawful Good
How does this multiclass thing work? I mean, I understand it gets you abilities/skills/w/e from other classes, but how do I do it? In this specific example, how do I do it?
I start as a Elf Rogue. Do that first dungeon, get some kills, explore some. I reach level 2. What do I do now? Talk to the Fighter trainer and tell him to advance me there?
Skills (except Human and Drow): Max Search, Disable Device, UMD, Open Locks, Spot, Balance, Diplomacy, Hide, Move Silently. Split your remaining points equally between Jump and Tumble. On your Fighter level you will not have enough skill points for everything, so invest them in some of the skills above (making sure you do not end up with an extra .5 in any skill - spending a point in another Fighter skill if necessary), then catch up on your next rogue levels (do not spend points in Jump, Tumble or Balance until after all other skills are back to max score, and max out first the first skills listed).
Skills (Human and Drow): Same, but you should be able to get both Jump and Tumble instead of splitting points between them.
Ok. I only got one level in that char I played, and I did not do anything with skills. When/how do I get skills/skill points? I should be able to follow this after I know where I get them. I imagine I'll understand what UMD is, too :D
Enhancements (Elf): Aerenal Melee Attack I, Aerenal Melee Damage I, Dexterity I, Enchantment Resistance I, Perception I, Racial Toughness II
These are from the class trainer, right? When do I get the points or experience I need for these? At level up? Or is there a separate exp thing for them?
A few more questions:
What world should I make my char in? I chose the G one for my first char, Gallang-something-ish, since it was at the top. Does this follow the "top is newest/most used" rule that is in most free MMOs? I'd prefer to play when there are more people online, for party-forming and chatting, and am in a GMT+2 timezone.
Thanks for reading and for any advice you might choose to offer :D And for not killing me when I inevitably mess it up and come crying that it didn't work ;)
