View Full Version : Fortification Items
I´ve been playing around 6 to 8 weeks now. My palli (Elgeth - Ghallanda)is now lvl 11 but there is still no (except the light one from the kortos quest) fortification item in sight. Is there a quest around which can i grab on. I heard the are almost necesarry for further quests. I changed to vip after 3 weeks of playing. I saw maybe one time an item in the auction house but it was far to expensiv for me. Ty for reply
Relic of a sovereign youcancollect ore and trade it in quest for a necklace or orchard of the macabre you collect 20 tapestries and get the minos helmet ( heavy fort + toughness feat). The Minos is the way to go.

Yes, heavy fort is life and death above your level. The best place to go as a VIP is the Orchard of the Macabre (sp?) in Necro. You can run rares looking for "tapestries" that can be turned in for a helm that gives heavy fort + 20 hp. You can also buy those taps on the AH if you have the cash.
You can also run Relic of a Sovereign Past (Black Anvil mines) and collect the ore (drops on the ground in that quest) that can be turned in for a heavy fort necklace.

Minos Legens is one of the easiest mid-game items to get. Grab a caster, alt-tab the map at DDOwiki or Dorim's map shop, and hunt rares. Each chest has a significant chance to drop a shred of tapestry, and 20 of those will get you the helm from the collector at camp.

Fortification items also drop randomly. But the best route is probably to go for the Minos as mentioned above for Fort + 20 hp. Other than the korthos quest and Bloodknucles loincloth for light, I can't think of any static Fort items until you get to the mines or the orchard. There might be a few items that have light or moderate fort as a minor effect, but you're definitely going to want heavy. 25 or 50% just won't cut it.

There are items that have heavy fort on them as a random effect, but they are somewhat rare and pretty expensive for min level 11.
Black Anvil Mines is a F2P quest and I believe you need 10 Adamantine ore to turn in for the Nightforge Gorget (necklace) which gives heavy fort. If I remember correctly there are only 14 peices available and most groups split it up evenly (ninja looting the ore is very bad manners) so it might take you a few runs. However you probably (depending on server) can buy some off of the AH fairly cheaply as well to save yourself a couple of extra runs.
Trading in 20 shreds of tapestry is probably much easier as there usually is a tap run going (explorer, rare, and slayer is pretty darn good xp as well) but only if you have bought the pack, if you haven't black anvil mines is the way to go.
I think that there is a ring that drops from Madstone crater out of Gianthold that gives Heavy Fort as well, but I believe that it is min level 13.

The Ancient Band from Madstone Crater is min level 11 IIRC, but is usually out of the price range of a new player (it trades at around 1.5 million gold).
Running casual Relic of a Sovereign Past is the way to go. Solo it (with a pocket cleric) and do the optional to get the 15 adamantine ore, then turn in ten for the Nightforge Gorget, a minimum level 9 Heavy Fort necklace. Don't even think about the nice-looking +5 adamantine armor, you can only have one of those items.

In Relic of a Sovereign Past the item I usually pick up would be the Nightforge Helm! Mainly because I get my heavy fortification somewhere else. And that helm is SERIOUSLY helpful at bumping up one's will save for a while until you can score a +4/+5 resistance item someplace else. (Mainly I use that on WF fighters/barbs where I can get a moderate fortification ring and get to 100% anyways until I get around to a min 2 accessory for that character)
But yeah as a VIP he really should go the Tapestry method.

If I see you on, or you happen to see me on, my sorcerer (Kereen) will gladly take you on a guided tour of the Orchard and get you some tapestries. It might take a few runs through to get 20, but getting a Minos Legens helm for you won't be a problem.
