This just occured to me while sitting at work. My UMD is pretty high now, like 21. I have noticed that I can UMD runes that I previously couldn't. I can't think of the stats right now, but my Wis isn't that great and I can hit the Wis rune in Waterworks unbuffed.

So, can you UMD a Rune you are otherwise not qualified for? Does anyone know what the UMD requirements would be for different runes?

Im pretty sure UMD doesnt help you with runes. You probably have a wisdom item equipped that allows you to hit the requirement for that particular rune in WW.

I agree as far as I know the umd does not directly affect the rune (unless it was in an update and I not noticed it). However, the Umd does in a way do the rune for you as you can use it to get stat boosts and equipment that allows you to get the required rating.

Nope. By the rule book it SHOULD let you bypass it but unfortunately DDO didn't follow the rules there.

From the SRD:

Emulate an Ability Score
To cast a spell from a scroll, you need a high score in the appropriate ability (Intelligence for wizard spells, Wisdom for divine spells, or Charisma for sorcerer or bard spells). Your effective ability score (appropriate to the class you’re emulating when you try to cast the spell from the scroll) is your Use Magic Device check result minus 15. If you already have a high enough score in the appropriate ability, you don’t need to make this check.

So, you basically should be able to UMD a rune using <required stat score>+15 as the DC. Not easy, but it should be an option.
