Hi,
Sorry I'm very new to this game. I've built an Elf rogue and selected 2 weapon feat and weapon finnese.
I've really been struggling lately and I've just noticed that the attack bonuses on my weapons when I use both are really low.
When I use an open fist I have +9.
But when I use a long sword in one hand it reduces by about 4 (+5),
And when I use both longswords it's around +1.
Is the attack bonus from being a level 4 rogue not apply to longswords? As I got the proficiency from being an Elf rather than being a Rogue?
Is the penalty for using two weapons really -4 / -4 even with one feat?...
Hope someone can enlighten me.
Many thanks

1) If you are going to use weapon finese make sure the weapon you are using is a finess weapon.
2) If you are using oversized 2 weapons and don't have the feat expect more - to hit.
3) My twf characters usually use a shield til level 6 or so and then start using 2 weapons and loose the shield

weapon finesse adds your dex modifier to your attack bonus instead of the strength modifier that is normally taken. only finessable weapons make use of this. longswords are no finesse weapons. so if you equip a longsword your strength modifier is taken instead of your dex modifier.
also take not that wielding 2 normal sized weapons will give another -2 to both hands. you can take the oversized two weapon fighting feat to avoid that or use a light weapon in offhand.
with the two weapon fighting feat your malus for using 2 weapons simultaniously is lowered to -2. this always applies (ranger tempest 2 and 3 lower this to -1 and 0 respectively).

Weapon Finesse does not work on Long Swords.
You lack Oversized Two Weapon Fighting.
You could be looking at your attack bonus while moving also.
Also I know a lot of ROG that do not dual-wield until level 6 or so. Or they dual-wield on low AC monsters and thats it. Its up to you.

Try dual short swords. Or a rapier in your primary and a short sword in your secondary. Or two light maces.
Other combinations are also possible but you can usually find decent examples of the above weapons relatively easy (in my experience).
There must be an 8-point difference between your strength and your dex to give you a -4 for using a non-finesse weapon (not light nor rapier).

To summarize:
Finessse works only on light weapons (Daggers, hand axe, kukris, shortswords, anything with light in it's name), rapiers (which are NOT light), and a few oddball weapons marked as finesse.
TWF gives you a 2 pt penalty to each weapon when dual wielding (otherwise it's 4pts)
Unless you have oversized TWF, you will get an extra 2 pt penalty to each hand if you use a non-light weapon in your offhand.

With TWF AND a light weapon in the offhand it is -2/-2 with a non-light weapon in the offhand AND TWF it is -4/-4, otherwise it is -6/-10. http://ddowiki.com/page/Two-Weapon_Fighting
Oversized TWF gets rid of the requirement for a light weapon to be used in order to get the -2/-2.
Tempest II lowers the penalty by 1
Tempest III lowers the penalty by 2 (basically eliminating it with a light weapon in the offhand or OTWF)

Definately go dual shortwords. 2 Sunblades at level 7 is nasty. if Drow, so much the better.

As a rule of thumb, i never TWF on my TWF characters, before i get the ITWF-feat. Before that the 1-weapon+shield-combo is superior in terms of survival power and to-hit. (and in the lower levels to-hit matters a lot)

On my rogue I have weapon finesse and I TWF. I tend to stick to short swords, kukris, light maces and other similar weapons. I do not have trouble hitting and have been able to do it at low levels. A long sword is definitely not a weapon that you can use weapon finesse with.
