Elf would give you +2 hit / damage with longswords

...and the proficiency feat.

edit: nevermind he has ranger levels already. Elf would also allow you to take the elven arcane archer line and bow enhancements. You have many shot, so why not :p

I will most likely go elf for the extra damage.

Hm... with the new enhancements, could one go longsword + shortsword until one gets otwf?
And we probably are going to see lots of 6rng/monk/sth builds right now... Actually that was the first thing I thought of when I saw the new feat.

Monk's are proficient in Kamas that do 1d6, or need to take 2 feats (not counting Longsword Proficiency) to get Longswords for 1d8.

What is it that makes wielding Longswords worthwhile? I can see being Elf, for a better to hit / damage, but is that worth 2 Feats?

Weapon Focus Slashing gives +1 to both, so you're +1 on a Kama, +3 (net) on a Longsword. Throw in Elf , with 1 level of Paladin for Follower of the Soverign Host for a net of +6 to hit, +2 damage over a Kama wielding Monk without the Weapon Focus.

That's starting to look good, but hopefully you won't have that difficult a time hitting.

Longswords crit 19-20, Kamas on 20. With improved crit, it's 17-20 vs 19-20. They are simply superior weapons.

When I have more time, I'm going to have to calculate whether LS2 Longswords are going to be any better DPS than a pure monk's handwraps. With tempest, the speed is about equal, with a ~4.5% advantage to pure monk (~2% unarmed over tempest and 2.5% wind stance 4 over 3.) The damage difference becomes 2d12 Handwraps (Monk w/ past life) vs 1d10 greensteel longswords. Handwraps get more elemental effects and the ability to stun with weighted. Handwraps also get touch of death to offset some of the lightning strike damage. Both are x2 crit, but longswords with a bigger range.

How many attacks/minute does a Tempest I get in Winstance III while hasted?

And, judging by AH search, more common. I had no problem getting sup pot 6 longsword for my TR, try that for kama at a price that won't ruin you... But these are nuissances, longswords are way better in terms of DPS.

Btw. by going elf for +2 dmg you have lots of work to make up in the hit points area.

You have room for at least two toughness feats and mine will start with 14 CON. I don't see this.

These updates basically want me to make a monk as soon as possible.

I've made this build a while ago, though I spec-ed mine for traps. Works great as a solo-er and even better as an addition to the party. I would suggest grabbing more HP somehow, as I had to sacrifice mine a bit to get those pesky traps... Stupid things...

Edit: And going human definitely help with the additional feat and skill points, plus adds to the ability to heal themselves with Human Amp Healing. Makes them ever better solo-ers. Better healing > +2 damage, IMO...

Seems like a good fun build.

I'm personally torn between this same build though with few changes. (a bit more INT to get max on DD,UMD and search) I am going human on it for the +1 skillpoint/level/ human versatility /bonus feat/human versatility/and more AP for not having to put points into the elf longsword damage line)

My main reason that is a little putting me of this build is atm Touch of Death is not working with melee weapons. :(

My other option I'm looking at is lightside Pal8/monk12 with tons of healing amplifications that is a bit less on DPS department but very good survivability and self+group healing.

Hehe I keep changing my mind about each day as in which one I want to roll. ;)
