OK this is annoying me so much.
I'm a lvl 1 ranger/lvl 1 rogue carrying a longsword and a +1 rapier. i have no activated abbilites chaning my RTA or anything but a weird thing is happening. For a minute my Rta is +5/+2 and then a minute later its +0/-3. This happens even if im standing, i just get that random -5/-5 penalty and its there for some time, after that its +5/+2 again.
Im very familiar with DnD 3.5 rules but i dont know what the hell is happening here. Any ideas ?

I have a +2 rta bonus items, no TWF, strenght of 17, BAB +1, rapier is +1...my attack shouldnt even be as high as +5..

Are you wielding both weapons at the same time?

Not sure what RTA is, but I think that the answer you are looking for is that as you progress in your attack chain you get additional bonuses to your to hit modifier. The progression is +0/+0/+5/+10 for a char with 4 attacks (BAB 3+). Moving adds a -4 penalty to your attack bonus.

The inventory window displays what your attack bonus was the last time you hit something. It's only a visual bug. For better results, use the char sheet instead of inventory for checking that.

edit- just realized you are a BAB1 char and the attack chain progression wouldn't have anything to do with it here. Likely you were buffed up when you were last in combat and the inv window is reflecting that. Ignore it.

Uhm.. at BAB +1, characters have three swings in their attack chain; third swing receives a a +5 bonus, in order to encourage players not to break attack chain.

At BAB +3, your attack chain will deliver 4 swings and 4th swings will receive a +10 bonus.
