View Full Version : So... what exactly *can* they do?

Completed Bastion on Hard this afternoon and our third chest was not openable, despite us fulfilling all the quest requirements.
GM was contacted and we were told that it is against policy to unlock any chest for any reason.
Now, I know GMs have come into quests to spawn shrines and I know that they can tell what parts of a quest are completed and what aren't. I've been told by several people (who I play with semi-daily) that they have had chests spawned/unlocked when there has been a similar issue.
TBH, it's not that I care that much about the loot, it's just principle and wanting to know what exactly I can expect from in-game help.
Can anyone from Turbine come in and address this issue? Is there an "official stance"?

Would you rather just know how to open the chest legit? Just saying...

The third Bastion chest stays locked unless you (spoiler warning)
activate the rune on each of the platforms in the end room. You can either activate them by having the main devil boss throw you into the air and trying to land on them, or waiting long enough for the spawning devils to walk on them.
Once all 3 are hit, the devil boss dies and starts the demon fight. Kill her, and you get all three chests.
I don't bother trying to unlock the 3rd chest ever since I pulled a Demon's Blood from each of the other 2 in a single run.
Edit: As far as what they can and cannot do, I couldn't say. I haven't summoned them to help in a very long time because it seems like they can't do much of anything, and it's usually faster to just reset and hope it doesn't happen again.

Official stance as I have determined through personal experience:
They are polite when they tell you they can't help.
They are polite when they ask you to submit a bug report.
They are polite when they inform you it's a known bug and close the support ticket.
They are polite when they tell you the server crash costs you an item you bought in the store.
...They are also polite when they say they can't refund your TPs you spent on the item you didn't get, and refer you to turbine, who refers you to in game support who are still polite when...
Well you get the idea, official policy seems to be "polite".

waiting long enough for the spawning devils to walk on them.
I don't think that'll happen until at least one player has gone up there, although it might still count if you just get close and don't land on the platform.
Once all 3 are hit
It's a little more complicated than that: a light that's been hit can still be turned off later, by the footsteps of either a player or monster. This might cause players to think there's a bug with it opening.
Once a light has been on once though, monsters can turn it back on, so it is possible for a random Barbazu to accidently kill his boss by jumping around.

Yeah, don't know how it all works... I just know that one time I gave up on trying to get up there (again?), and lo-and-behold the boss just dropped in front of me. And I got my 3rd chest.
I know it looks like I'm trying to be considerate of people who don't know how it works yet, but I'm just having fun with hiding stuff in a very obvious way :D

Yeah sort of a pain......but there is a completely player driven way to get that chest unlocked, and a Gm isn;t going to just do it for you.
However. I chocking this up to your inexperience with said quest, and letting you run along now. Go get em!

Nevermind.
My own thread is making me angry, so I'm just going to forget about it and run it again later.
And on a side note, GMs CAN open chests.
I've had a GM open a rare mob chest because the rare mob disappeared for no apparent reason. (That stupid air elemental in Mech desert)
The floor buttons occasionally bug (both positively and negatively), all lit or not -- and there is also some weirdness involved where occasionally the buttons are "locked" and cannot be stepped on or altered. I'm still not totally sure what cause the latter -- it may be a bug or it may be intended feature based on something really obscure (though really, I usually always run it the same way and don't do much different).
As for GMs, depends who you talk to...and how you talk to them.
