Welcome to the DDO Lottery!

From the earliest of times, games of chance have been a source of amusement and reward. Skill and determination are often required to advance in the life of a character in DDO. Now it’s possible to get an in-game perk for each of your characters just by playing in the new DDO Lottery! Like all of my.DDO.com, this feature is launching in beta. We’d love to hear your feedback (http://forums.ddo.com/forumdisplay.php?f=230) as we tune and improve the system.

Ready to play? Here’s how it works:

Log into my.DDO.com with your community login. (Remember you can open My.DDO in game using Ctrl-M!)
Look for the Lottery Widget (in the lefthand column by default).
If you are eligible for any current drawings, you may click on one to enter.

That’s it! Select any drawings your character is eligible for and then check back when the drawing is complete to see if you won. Have a lot of characters? You may find it simpler to start at one of your character pages and enter drawings there.

What Can I Win? Where Does it Go?

The DDO Lottery is for characters, not players. Each drawing can have a different prize. Some drawings will be random; others will grant specific rewards based on a character’s class, race, level, etc. Entries are limited to one per character per drawing. Prizes are in-game items only, have no cash value, and are dispensed at Turbine’s sole discretion. Everyone who plays DDO on the North American service with a character that’s accessible via my.DDO.com is able to play and win!

Thanks for Playing!

We hope you enjoy the DDO Lottery. Please visit the my.ddo.com Feedback forum to let us know what you think about the system.

Frequently Asked Questions

My character doesn’t show up on my.DDO.com. Can I still play?

Not with that character, but you may use (or even create) another character to play the Lottery with if you choose. We are aware that some players do not correctly appear in my.DDO.com and have an update in the works that should resolve the issue for the majority of players impacted.

How do I know if I won?

Check your in-game mail, or visit my.DDO.com the next day to see if you won!

Are the prizes bound to character?

Some prizes are bound and some are not. Remember that bound items can't be traded between characters. Be sure that you only enter a character into a bound-prize lottery if that particular character can use the item. If a lottery contains any bound prizes, the following note will appear in the lottery description: Bound prizes.

Why did you do this?

The web team is constantly looking for fun and useful things to add to our sites so that players have something to do when they (gasp!) can’t play. Plus, as players, we think it’s pretty fun to win stuff.

Where do I report bugs / send kudos / provide destructive criticism / conflate web development with game development?

For now, we’d appreciate it if discussions of this type were in the website feedback forum (http://forums.ddo.com/forumdisplay.php?f=228). Thanks!

Known Issues

Characters Errors
If your character is affected by any of the following conditions, they will generally not receive lottery prizes due to an error in the lottery system:
- Characters who have transferred servers
- Characters imported from the former Codemasters service
- Characters who have True Reincarnated multiple times
- Characters with the same name as a previously deleted character on the same account and server

Characters who aren't updating properly

If your character's information isn't displaying properly on MyDDO, that character is very likely to not work properly in the lottery system! Only enter lotteries with characters whose character page is showing accurately in MyDDO.

Korthos Characters

Please note that winning character's prizes are delivered via the in-game mail system. Korthos Island has no mail service. The first available mailbox in-game is located in Stormreach Harbor. You must download the full game client in order to access Stormreach Harbor.

They need an excuse to say "thank you for playing. have a cookie."?

As a way to "fairly" toss people rare/cooling looking cosmetic stuff.

A way to give players a chance at some cool item come event time.

But ultimately it is probably this, just as it is with LOTRO...

A way to encourage people to continue to play the game. (longer people play, the greater the chance they'll spend money in the store/subscribe.)

Ok I have a small list of questions for you Tolero.

1) After this initial test how often are drawings going to be made? once a day? once a week?

2) After this quick test of tasty ham drawings, are you going to be pulling strictly from the DDO store or are you also going to add in game stuff such as weapons or armor etc?

3) You say you are "constantly looking for fun and useful things to add to our sites," does this mean that the lotteries could possibly get tied into live events like the egg hunt for example?

4) With the upcoming release of airships, will there be anything from there that we can win in lotteries once Update 5 is released?

5) You say "Entries are limited to one per character per drawing." Does this mean you could occasionally have multiple drawings in a day like how you are doing with the tasty hams?

5a) If so will there be an announcement saying "Keep on the look out today we will be having multiple drawings today to win cool things in our lottery"?

and last question...for now ;)

6) These drawings are server separated correct so that at least one person from each server can win something and we aren't having to compete between everyone on every server?

Looks like it could be fun. Especially once testing with hams is done and we get to see other prizes. Things like unique decorative shields/armor would be awesome.

Will be interesting to see what direction this goes.

Edit: Did notice one thing. The characters are not listed either alphabetically or via server. They just seemed randomly dropped in. Several from each server were clustered together in some spots. But finding a specific character on a specific server took a little while as I tend to use the same names on the various servers

How about fix myDDO first? Having characters that are no long in existence still showing and worst still having current characters linked to long deleted versions of said characters.

Take myDDO out of beta, before you add extra BETA stuff!

While I praise the devs for trying to implement something new, I cannot disagree with the above post, as I STILL am listed with the wrong level, wrong gear, and wrong GUILD.

Fix myDDO before you start adding new stuffs to it, please.

Thank you. This is something that could be very cool and kinda fun. I'll go ahead and apologize on behalf of the standard number of people who can't hear themselves talk enough as they also complain to the sun for not being bright or yellow enough or yell at the color green for not being green enough. Hope I win a Ham tonight.

This. As someone who is genuinely concerned with how odd his characters tend to look in certain suits of armor, I'm hoping to see new cosmetic items (Like them bunny hats).

Also, free stuff! I am not sure why people complain about free stuff.

Edit: I'm a winner! That brings my Ham total to 26.

Multiple times per week (and sometimes you'll see multiple types per day!)

After this quick test of tasty ham drawings, are you going to be pulling strictly from the DDO store or are you also going to add in game stuff such as weapons or armor etc?

You will see a lot of DDO Store items, but you never know what else may appear ^^

You say you are "constantly looking for fun and useful things to add to our sites," does this mean that the lotteries could possibly get tied into live events like the egg hunt for example?

Oh we definately intend for the lotteries to have some cynergy with live events!

With the upcoming release of airships, will there be anything from there that we can win in lotteries once Update 5 is released?

We shall see!

You say "Entries are limited to one per character per drawing." Does this mean you could occasionally have multiple drawings in a day like how you are doing with the tasty hams?

Yup!

If so will there be an announcement saying "Keep on the look out today we will be having multiple drawings today to win cool things in our lottery"?

You will find that there will be some lotteries that occur very regularly, some that arise around holidays or events, and then there will be times where smaller lotteries will just spontaneously appear like a ninja, so watch that widget or keep your ear to the ground if you hear your friends talking about a lotto they entered that you didn't see yet!

These drawings are server separated correct so that at least one person from each server can win something and we aren't having to compete between everyone on every server?

Correct, it looks for winners on all the servers (and there may be a few times where we do have server-specific lottos, such as if there is a particular date or occassion that is associated with the name of a server).

If you can't find the widget automatically, you can also add it to your page by hand! Just log into my.ddo and click "my admin". Then on the left side click "appearance" and chose "widgets". You'll see a list of boxes, which are all the parts that show up on your my.ddo page. If the one that says "Lottery" has the word "add" next to it, click "add" and it will put it on your page. Then all you need to do is click the link in the upper left to go back to your page and find it! By default it's on the left side, and you may have to scroll down if it's not at the very top left.

It's sure a good thing we stole LotRO's F2P model and point based store tech. That was cited in most of the Warner buyout announcements as to why how Turbine can help Warner - store-tech into everything.

DDO came first - LotRO stole Graal *shakes fist*. The engine has been shared by both for quite a while even if LotRO uses it as a WoW-Clone play style and DDO went more Quake-clone movement matters style.

Don't get your apron in a bunch yet. Soon both DDO and LotRO will be the little forgotten tech-hand-me-down-sisters once Turbine announces the Harry-Potter MMO. Last I saw their "console-MMO" (PS3 first) is planned for 2011. So expecting an announcement sometime in 2010.

Personally, I'd rather they add something like this to testing before they finish the MyDDO beta. I really don't want to have something fixed/finished then screwed up again because they started testing something new on it right after they declared it finished and ready to go.

I still remember when that used to happen after the updates back in 2007/08. Since some of the fixes to the game happened after they started testing stuff on Risia, often at least a few of the fixes would disappear after the content went live. Then a few hot-fixes later things they had fixed were fixed again. It was kinda like taking a step forward, taking a half step back, then stepping forward again and a couple steps to the side.

*as to the character list in the lotto, I think I figured out why some of mine are out of order. By the look of things, the characters are listed in groups by server alphabetically. But, the toons that were created after purchasing extra slots appear to be listed below the sorted/organized by-server list in the order they were created no matter which server it was.

Once the full-blown lottery gets going, some of the nay-sayers will come around. The LOTRO lottery gives some high-end, end-game collectibles. The DDO lottery could offer items such as shroud raid crafting components for your green steel items/weapons. Pretty much everyone would welcome that.

This was a pretty good idea.

one of the reasons i left DDO about a and a half year ago was because i was in a situation where i had no guild, no in-game friends, and **** gear. as a matter of fact, the only reason i came back was because an rl friend started playing.

the lotto would be able to keep players such as i WAS going because there is always i chance at getting a super cool weapon or something.

it wouldn't surprise me if the (hint, hint) improved the win rate for accounts that have been off for a while (hint, hint)
or (cough) upped it for accounts with all low levels and make everything bind to account (cough)

It would be more interesting if the two characters listed in MyDDO were even mine. None of the 4 toons I have (nor the ones who have already passed on their next life) are shown, nor ever have been. *shrug*

That said, it'd be cool if lottery items were set to a little above the character's current level. I think that would perhaps give some players who might otherwise be thinking about going off to play something else a bit of extra incentive to continue. For example, a level 6 or 7 ranger might get something like a (bound to account) bow of air.

I've noticed that every time I log in to the game it will let me enter the lottery.
Intended?
Did that 3 times within about 15 minutes:start game->enter toon->submit registration for lottery->wait for it to finish and exit->and repeat. Each time this was done the slider bar on the "current entries" shrank a little as if more names were added to that list (though I can't find any duplicate listings for the different lotteries.) Is this registering the same toons multiple times for a single lottery? If so, it'll deflate the value when this really gets going.

Are there settings somewhere so that we can remove names from the winners list?
It would also be handy if the winners list removed a name automatically when the toon retrieved their winnings?

Okay, to answer a few questions if they didn't get answered on the last page...the lottery is a wonderful idea! I enter every day, and I have won several times! I didn't win the Mother's Day basket, even though I'm Still Da Mom. :(

I had trouble finding it at first too, but after a few times I got it down. I usually start at the forums since I have that book marked. Then I click the My DDO buttonat the top. Then I click my name towards the top right (I hate typing stuff in). This will bring up all your characters. I click the widget, on the left side where Tolero says it will be. ;) I click enter, and select all. Poof! All my characters are entered!

I found that my characters were listed in order as I created them. Since I have OCD and cannot delete a character, I didn't have any problems with anyone showing up that didn't belong there. :p

About having multiple lotteries, YES! Like Tolero said, there was Tastey Ham, Mother's Day and Energy Boost, and Pick Me up (I have yet to figure out the last two out).

For those of you who complained, you need to stay off these forums!

No, and I suspect that we need to look at some further cache busting techniques to make sure the in-game browser refreshes the form properly each time you view it.

Is this registering the same toons multiple times for a single lottery?

Fortunately, no, it only registers them once. Behind the curtain, any duplicate entries that come in are discarded.

Currently, no, that list will grow and grow based on how lucky the dice roll for you. We have plans on alleviating the issue though.

The drawing's end time is:
(1) Only displayed when you sign up for drawing. I'd like it listed on the Current Entries list.

and

(2) Displayed in a non-standard format. The most recent one is listed as:
"Tasty Lotto!
Ends 05/12/2010 18:25pm"
I'd like it to use my MyDDO date format and timezone preferences, so I can actually tell what time this is without doing extra math. Maybe also display the time to the end of the drawing in days/hours/minutes.

I'm fairly sure the items are not bound :) if anyone gets one that is bound please let me know, as I am not anticipating anything in my current treasure chest to be bound. It isn't to say there may not be some bound things in the future, but as it stands right now I have no "bound" items that I am aware of.

Won the energetic loto and the potion are bound to character, try to put them in the shared bank and didn't work...

Based on what I have seen, anything special has been bound to the character that gets the mail. Hams and things like normal Haste potions have not been bound.

I had one Mothers Day winner and one Pick me Up winner, and both had bound to character items. The Pick Me Up Lotto had things like Enduring Dex Potions, that bound (for my low Dex Dwarf Warrior....:(), Haste Potions (unbound) and something else that Bound to character that might be useful.

I would really recommend that you try to minimize this since you will many times end up with nice, but USELESS for that character, gifts from lotto's.

Thanks for the reports folks! I'm investigating the bind status of the prizes (the bound/unbound seems to be conditional per-item so far). Worst case we'll just have to start including a comment on bound items so you know whether to enter alts or mains in those lotteries.

Alright, so I've gotten clarity on the bound/unbound items. Unfortunately it is still a "per item" situation, so from this point on a note of "Bound prizes" will appear in the lottery description if any of the prizes are bound for that lottery. I'll update the Lottery FAQ to clarify this for newcomers.

Gratz for the lucky winners.

For me the only thing I can seem to win is tasty ham. I do like ham, but some other prize would be wonderful also!

I just found out I won the Mnemonic drawing on my pure monk. I log in and get the congrats mail and attached to it are 100 concentrated elixirs of majors! :D

"SWEET!" I say to myself. What an awesome prize! My FvS and some other toons can definately use this.

Wait?! What's this? Bound to character!??!? Oh noes! Bummer :(

Will these be changed to bound to account or should I just throw them away?

Be sure to read the lottery descriptions before entering characters. If lottery bundle of prizes contains any items that are bound to character, the lottery description will say "Bound prizes". (this is a new change as of this week) If you can't use the prize you won on the current character, the only way to use the item would be if you reincarnated your character into a form that they would make use of it.

Also I've noticed something else with players entering things using the "just sign me up for everything" button. Remember that it only takes one level of a class to "qualify" in class-specific drawings. So even if the lottery is limited to "only casters", there's no way for the lottery system to predict that your character doesn't make use of spell casting if you took 1 level of a class that can cast spells.

Tolero - can you post results, or recaps, of the lotteries?

I've entered relatively every day, and haven't won anything since the ham. With no feedback (winnings or results), I think the lotteries may feel the "out of sight, out of mind" and eventually get cancelled due to a lack of participation.

Re: Warforged lotto

Yeah I'm looking through my loot bag for some good WF stuff. Worst case if I can't find any docents or oils, then I'll find something universal but limit it to WF only entries ;) down with fleshies!! Er... I mean... yay Warforged pride!

Trust me, "lack of participation" is definitely not an issue. The past two weeks have gone well, so I am working out a "schedule" so that people have a relative idea of what types of "regular" lotteries are going on during a typical week (beyond the random encounter lotteries). This should help people narrow in on the lotteries they're most interested in if they have a ton of characters to manage.

Anybody know what this is about? From Tarrant's MyDDO (http://my.ddo.com/tarrant/2010/05/23/the-truth-will-be-revealed/):

The truth will be revealed.

It came from nowhere. A bump, loud noise, and BAM! Before we knew it this lottery was here and we couldn’t stop staring at it. We don’t know why it’s there or who else may be a part of it, but we know it’s there for a reason. Can you help Tolero, Fernando and I reveal the truth about the lottery? Once we know the answer, we can move on with our lives.

I suspect that it is talking about this seemingly-random "Looking Glass Lottery":

This selection of prizes only leads to more questions! Bound prizes

1 x Bolt[E]
50 x Pinch of Fine Sand[E]
10 x +1 Healer’s Kit[E]
1 x Small Twisted Shrapnel
5 x Potion of Curse Removal[E]
5 x Potion of Disease Removal[E]
1 x Lesser Pendant of Travel

I see Curse/Disease Removal plus Sand, which makes me think of the Mummies in the Desert. Beyond that, I dunno...

I like the lottery even though I can't win anything but Curse pots and Hams. However, when a certain Lottery has several days before it ends sometimes I would like to go back and see what all was in that particular Lottery and the time and date that it's suppose to end.

So on the list of Current Entries you should be able to click on the name of the Lottery and get the details about it including the time not just the date it's suppose to end.

Ooo you read my mind. There will indeed be a warforged lotto this weekend ^^ (I didn't have any warforged specific things, so instead, it's warforged-only. Hooray for being a living construct!)

The lefthand column is Player News. By default.

Where is the widget?

Problems:
1. I have won lots of guest passes, and just tried using one for the first time. You can't use on on someone unless you already have the pack?!?!?
(Error): You must first have access to a content module in order to grant a guest pass for that area to another player.
2. My alt account was inactive for a while a month back. Since MyDDO's character info feed isn't updating, MyDDO thinks this account hasn't logged in recently and now I can't enter lotteries on that account (even though I actually HAVE used that account recently now). If the MyDDO feed stays broken, eventually every character will have this problem and no one will be able to enter the lotteries.
Your character data has been archived. Please log into the game to refresh your character data.(this also makes it impossible to copy a character on that account onto the Lamannia test server)

I enjoy the lotteries a great deal but the tracking system MyDDO uses is so utterly screwed up that I can't enjoy them properly. In the last week two of my characters were listed as Aggregation Lottery winners but I received no prize and when I took out a ticket the complaint person was completely unhelpful and just gave me a bland sorry for the inconveniece and the excuse that MyDDO is in beta. I think this is a great game and all in all much more receptive to player feedback than WoW but the people answering tickets for this game tend to be defensive and unhelpful and they really aren't one of the good things about the game. The bigger problem, however, is that the information given on the MyDDO website just doesn't accurately reflect players' characters and you really need to do something about this. Most of the characters I'm supposed to have have been deleted long ago but they're still showing up and the few characters I am still playing are way behind in terms of the stats etc. reported. Twice this has resulted in issues I felt important enough to take a ticket out on. The first time I got the bland, unhelpful response I mentioned earlier. The second time I was irritated (and I think justly so) to use some profanity and the response was typical: I was told than any future use of profanity would result in action being taken against my account--but almost nothing was said about the problem itself. That's the kind of high-handed response I expected from the good people at WoW and one of the reasons I left that game behind.

Same. Signed up late Monday night for this one and noticed the date. Now there have been no new lotteries since.

The lottery has been suspending -- they're looking into problems with it. Winning characters are not receiving winnings, plus characters are not updating properly. It's still in Beta and nice to know that it's being looked at.

I'm not sure if that's the right place to say this, but I have a weird problem with the Lottery : It seems to work for all of my characters (which all update properly in MyDDO), but there are some items that I never get in game.

For example : this character (http://my.ddo.com/character/argonnessen/loutse/) has recently won 2 crafting lotteries (whose prizes I could get normally), and a medium thin quiver lottery which I never got (nothing in the mail).

In fact, whenever any of my characters wins a medium thin quiver lottery (or a Quick boost lottery, for instance), I never get my prize.

And, again, everybody updates properly on MyDDO and gets their other prizes when they win.
