Are there any pros to soloing dungeons or raids? Do you get more loot and better items or is it just better to do these in a group?

Mostly just bragging rights. You actually lose out on extra chances to roll for loot not needed by other players (or however it's distributed in that particular party) when you solo. With the dungeon scaling, sometimes it's easier to solo than it is to group. Personal preferences really :)

I'd just like to add to this that raids don't scale to party size, just dungeons.

Thanks but if you had 6 people in a pit group and muckdoom dropped, you would have a 1 of 6 chance of getting it. But my question is that if you were in a group of 2, wouldnt you have a 50% chance of getting it which is higher chance.Wouldnt that be a pro? Also wouldnt this work for ring of feather fall? I could be all wrong on this because im pretty noob at this game.

As loot is random, each person would have an equivalent chance of getting a particular piece of loot.
If each person had a 5% chance to loot a muckbane, then with 6 people in the party, the total chance would be 30% of a muckbane dropping. Who actually gets the muckbane in the end though, is entirely up to the looter's discretion. Which is why people prefer running with friends/guildies who would pass the loot around to them, as opposed to looting it and selling it on the AH.

This is severely untrue. Every named item aside from some required stuff has a SET percentage chance to drop. Like bloodstones may be a 2% drop rate but it doesnt mean that you have 1 in six chance. Everyone simply has a 2% chance to pull it.
Although it someone were with you (Assume a 6 man group) The total drop chance would be about 12% that someone in the group will pull it. but EVERY PERSON ONLY HAS a 2% drop rate for it.

That's not how probability works. Loot rolls are considered independent events, and as such do not effect any other loot roll whatsoever. Each player has a 2% chance, and thus each consecutive additional player does not increase that chance.

What he said.
Think about it, if a group of 6 had a 12% chance then that would mean a group of 50 would have a 100% chance of getting one and that's just not true when dealing with random numbers.
DDO loot is like a lotto with a HUGE amount of randomness, not like a raffle where there is a set number of tickets sold.
*Edit*
On topic a bit more, as bad as it sounds sometimes you have a better chance of completing something you know you can solo without adding any additional risk (other players you don't know) if your simply looking to get it done.

Solo - 1 person opens the chest, 1 2% chance at muckdoom *
Party - 6 people open the chest, 6 2% chances at muckdoom
Each person opens the chest fresh for themselves.
Solo no-one will give it to you, in a party theirs a chance they will, especially for raid loot which binds and they maybe already have it or cant use it.
*exact figures may vary, terms and conditions apply

If a item X has a chance of Y to appear in a chest for each player, then the chance that at least 1 item X is pulled is: (1 - ((1-Y)^(Number of Players)))
So if a muckbane has a chance of 2% and you have 6 players, you have a chance of ~11.4% that at least one muckbane drops (1 - ((1-0.02)^6))
Please note that even 6 billion players in your party, the chance is not 100% for a muckbane.
In fact, it is only 100% if the item would always drop.
--------------------------------------
To give another example: Lets say that a raid drops a raid item with a chance of 25% per player.
If you are the only player in the raid, then the chance of a raid item appearing is of course 25%
If you have 12 players, then it is a 96% chance that at least one raid item drops.

Sometimes you solo a raid just for completion purposes.
AKA..Demon Queen, I usually put up LFM for ADQ...as I am doing it, sometimes people join, sometimes they don't. After ADQ I then put up LFM for DQ raid. If within 5 minutes, no one has joined...I will just solo it to get closer to 20 completions.
****BUT****
If in guild message there is an ADQ going later that night, I will of course probably wait (if I am going to be on at the scheduled time)

Solo means less xp, less loot than being in a group (presuming the group is not full of dimbulbs).
I end up doing a lot of it anyway, for the challenge factor, and so I ensure that the only dimbulb in the group is myself. I'm much better off blaming me for my own stupid mistakes than choking down bile at someone else's stupid mistake in the name of party unity.
But I'm not unmindful that quests go faster and get you more rewards with a party.

Soloing Advantages
1) You get to run the quest the way you want to at the speed that you want to
2) Soloing some quests is considerably easier than pugging some quests
3) You never need to wait for a group to form
4) Generally increases your character's overall survivability due to extra equipment you will carry and extra attention you will probably pay to your life and status effects
5) Don't need to worry about dropping group if RL inteferes
Soloing disadvantages:
1) Some quests are much longer or impossible to complete when solo
2) Less loot drops, therefore less chance of an item that you want/need dropping
3) Can be much harder if you are not familiar with the quest

The misunderstanding here is that each item has a set chance to appear per person rather than per chest.
If 6 people open a chest, each of those 6 people have a chance to pull the loot.
If you are in a raid with 12 people, then each of those 12 people have a chance at pulling that loot.
The neat thing about raids is that most of the people in that raid don't want most of the special loot that drops - they only want the loot that they're looking for in particular and they'll pass that special loot on to other players (possibly you) if it's one of the pieces that you're looking for.
