I think it would be a pretty good idea to be able to see, for example, how many hitpoints horoth or suulu have for dps calculation purposes. I see how a dps meter would cause issues (lag, fighting style monotony, etc..) but being able to see exactly how many hp of a mob you are able to take down in a certain timeframe would allow more detailed analysis of combat efficiency.
(Plus comparative analysis of different bosses on different difficulties...opens up a new perspective on several levels :) )

I think before this, we need to see our group-mates' hitpoints for healing purposes. This would help with SP conservation.

While I understand the reasons for wanting such a thing, I think there is something to be said for rewarding player experience and I feel that something like this favors newbies. Why? Because the way it is now, you have to run a quest a number of times in order to figure out what you need to do to be effective. Not only is that part of the fun, but it is also very rewarding to pat yourself on the back for figuring out the optimal weapon qualities to knock down the boss in two seconds flat. Of course you could visit the forums or consult the advice channel, but there is no substitute for actual experience. If stats for monsters were published or easily available, whether it be hit point totals, AC, saving throws, resistances, etc. then veterans would have less of an edge in challenging adventures. A newbie could walk right into the game and know from the start exactly how high he needs to get his save DCs for monsters to fail at least 50% of the time, exactly how much damage they need to be able to deal to take out the boss in x seconds, etc.
Meta-game thinking is impossible to avoid, but I don't think it should encouraged.

Thats an excellant point, although I believe there can be away to implement such a feature without encouraging a decrease in the disparity between newer players and the veterans.
Not talking about other stats, but at least revealing the hitpoint bar we are dealing with wouldn't be game breaking.
