View Full Version : Epicness!
Hi,
I've got a level 20 fvs with searing light capstone, trying to do epic. I've got a little bit of raid gear, half a greensteel (existential stalemate gloves) and enough UMD to use some arcane scrolls.
Some questions about epic:
- How do you deal with mobs with Evasion in epic, if your blade barrier DC isn't high enough to reliably hit them?
-- What if these mobs don't move? (drow archers in oob)
-- Weighted weapons? How can I not take so much damage while using weighted weapons? Even with blur/displacement/stinking cloud (what AoE's stack with blur/displace?) I keep getting spammed with stuff like crippling strike, and scroll displacement is so short...
-- Do I pretend to be a wizard, but with searing light instead of firewall?
-- Prismatic Ray scrolls, and wait for banish effect? Can I buy them, are they going to work?
- How do you deal with the trolls in VoN1? Is there a way to avoid fighting them completely?
-- How do I deal enough damage to kill them? BB'ing the trolls takes forever, even after I've used fire damage to turn off regen, especially if I get no crit.
-- How do I deal with the arena fight after? Do I go to the wizard place and spam searing light?
Any other tips for epic?
:)

In a nutshell for epics on a FvS you want:
+50 or better first swing. This will let you hit a lot of stuff in epics on a 2 or a 3.
Use weighted 5% as well as the rest of the party. and stick together. concentrate on one mob at a time. pull one at a time when possible. use doors.
500+ hps.
dont bother with offensive spells, they just tickle the mobs or dont work.
use debuffing weapons on stuff you cant hit on a 2.
Group cooperation and tactics are very important, make sure they stay in your healing circle, etc.
There are SOME places where BB will work, BUT for the majority of the time, Firewall, block at a choke point, and beat with 5% weighted is the most effective method for 99% of the time. sadly.

Are you planning to solo epic? because all your options seem to not include any resources from party members...

no, what I listed is what I consider essential for you, as a FvS, to have to contribute succesfully in epics as well as basic tactics the party must use to make epics a breeze.

2-3 Barbarians, 1 RadII backstabber, 1 otto/hold spammer?

Sorry if i was not clear, i was asking the OP, i knew you adviced taking into account a full party, but from the OP it seemed that he was trying to solo it...

Quickened Mass Heal is your friend. (Learn to anticipate damage and start to pre-cast it before big damage spikes).
Divine casters haven't got any of the backbreaking CC spells Wizards and Sorcs have (Mass Hold) or even anything as good as Otto's Irresistable Dance. Of spells with save DCs, really only some of the Symbols shine (they are very situational too), and Bladebarrier has its places but they are few and far between.
As for soloing - the only divine builds that can really do it well in Epics are the Valiance-style Clr17/Mnk2/Rog1 variants with AC, evasion and UMD.

Lousy. Try mass hold tactics and other spells your style sounds pretty weaksauce.

I would say your style is the weak one. Mass hold moster lasts for what? 3 seconds? before they save? Stuns last till they are dead. We tried "your" way and found it to be far inferior to the method I suggested.

With good wizards it lasts longer then 3 seconds. There are tons of different styles that can be used anything from fascinate and leave mobs to charming select mobs to a variety of cc. Usually when I hear somebody says I just burn all the mobs it means they can not do things any other way..
Hi,
Thanks for all your replies so far.
Are you planning to solo epic?
I would like to solo Epic, but I'm also looking for stuff that helps do Epic without an arcane (e.g. when you get a party with a PuG wizard who has 200 hp and/or casting with a shield and/or firewall is 120 dmg per tick, I would like to finish the Epic in less than 6 hours plz).
Sure, Epic can be a clean, easy 0-pot run with a good party and strategy like shield-wall at the door, firewall from wizard places, arcane cc spells and fascinate, but... it's not fun if it isn't stressful, right? :P
As for soloing - the only divine builds that can really do it well in Epics are the Valiance-style Clr17/Mnk2/Rog1 variants with AC, evasion and UMD.
Thanks for your reply, but this is what I was afraid of. So I have some more questions to ask, about using Valiance-style builds in epic :)
- Do they use blade barrier or do they melee while blur/haste/displace/raged? (I assume melee?)
- Is their AC enough for Epic, even when dispelled? (If it's not, what's their special advantage?)
- Is their reflex high enough to make Evasion useful, can I pretend to have evasion with fireshield/fire protect to evade some stuff like flamestrike?
- Do they offensive cast with UMD, and if so, what? Waves, irresistable dance, prismatic spray?
Is there a video of someone soloing Epic with a divine caster? :)
Thanks,
:)
