So I was running around Gianthold, when I came across a gnoll caster. He continued to summon mephits. He had 5 up before I had to pull out. Only one caster, but 5 summons. CR 15 gnoll (windlasher soul howler)...

so when is the player going to get this ability, especially since turbine went out of their way to turn it off in players with green steel. I want the multiple summons at the same level as enemies as well.

so much for playing today. going to log for the day. how long before my friends are not enough to log... tic toc turbine...

Are you sure it wasn't the mephits summoning more mephits? All mephits have the ability to summon another mephit.

no, gnolls are spam casting summons right now... Go check out the unrare gnoll summoner in the Vale... Its pretty rediculous.... He'll summon a pretty substantial Army of mephits now.

It's a lagtastic army of mephits!

Especially if he manages to get a couple mephits up before you're in range. Try getting him while disoriented, lagged out and blasted from all sides ...
****, I should roll a gnoll caster. Might be fun to play.

He is a wussy little pushover! At least it you have enlarged FoD, Wail, Firewall, etc. Not so fun for melee though...

no, gnolls are spam casting summons right now... Go check out the unrare gnoll summoner in the Vale... Its pretty rediculous.... He'll summon a pretty substantial Army of mephits now.

I'll take your word for it, don't feel like checking. :)

Even a full party has had a problem taking that caster because the mephits themselves would summon other mephits and block the targeting of him. I've always had no problem standing at the very edge of the water and ranging him instead. It's outside his aggro range, and as long as you use a returning wounder or a wounding bow with multishot, he goes quick enough. It's pure absurdity that they can now spam the casting AND the mephits can summon more AT THE SAME TIME.

Aspenor is right. Gnoll casters (Soul Howler, IIRC) have the ability to summon a Greater Mephit. Each Greater Mephit in it's turn can summon another regular Mephit, same kind but lesser. If you kill the lesser and give enough time to a Greater one, he'd cast another. If you really want to check, get on a toon with high Spot and range from afar. The caster will summon one, then shoot the Greater Mephit and watch.
EDIT: Wanted to add something, that reminded me of another thread. Mobs' life span is about 3-5 seconds. It is only fair that they'd have abilities that exceed players'. The original thread that reminded me of it, was about player complaining at Mephits' regenerate rate.

And on another note:
The Gnolls aren't the only ones doing it. :(
I've noticed that the divine casters in Relic can summon MULTIPLE spiders and elementals.
Mind U both the spiders and elementals are WEAK and easy to kill even on elite :p, BUT if they can summon over 4 of them at the same time, WHY THE H#LL CAN'T I!? :confused::mad::D

I found that works pretty well, unless you happened to miss a salt mephit, or he summoned a salt mephit which seems to have a "aura" at about 100-300 feet away from it, which hits for 8-20 untyped damage every 3 seconds, which in that case you're pretty SOL.
