(Not Causal mode)
I've just had some thoughts compiling in my head for the last little while while reading the forums.
First off, I Run a causal guild of IRL friends. Almost of us are old P+P players and DDO is one of the best things for us to get together and get our dungeon-ing on. Its fantastically convenient since none of us have to host a game, and find time to play. (Also some of us are over seas right now.)
None of us have a Level 20 yet. No big deal. We also pool the collectibles/resources together which helps a lot. also trade inside the guild to other guildys and alts. we have some good gear, but in no way are we uber... heck we get excited for stuff that normal people would consider vendor trash. (Oh keep that and send it to my (ALT)!)
we also don't farm that much. we take loot as it comes, and sometimes buy things required from the AH or vendors. but if you look at some of the prices that's way out of even our shared budget.
the problem is coming that as the primary party gets bigger raids will/are coming up. no way we ever have 12 guild mates of appropriate level to guild run it. but joining a raid = one look at MyDDO and there's no way were getting accepted. sure some of our builds are a little gimped, but we're self sufficient and good at what we do.
though, as I've been reading the horror stories of grinding out a quest 40 to 60 times just for materials for crafting (and not getting any) and I look even at the possibility of that on a casual schedule and just shrug.
now conversely, when the guild was out getting our minos'es that wasn't so much of a grind. we were there anyways, and it was a lot of fun, and with pooling our resources (and with some good sniping taps on the AH) it only took us about a week. heck were not even done all of necro4 yet so there's still fantastic replay left!
reasonable drop rate, fun outdoor zone, still more left to do = win!
I don't want a *WIN* button. I love a challenge for a reward. the first time threw a quest is awesome! second, third times still good. (sometimes we have to get guild alts threw things to get them caught up) but the same thing, over and over and over.... and over and over and over...
One of the things I like is the guaranteed end drop for quest chains. Delara's, Thenreal, Catacombs... etc. Three fantastic chains with a reason to run it just for the Bind to Character/Account Items that are worth it. combine that with great story's and fantastic challenges. good drops no reason to have to grind it cause you know when your done your getting what you want.
Even if its a chance of something useful and not a guaranteed drop (when its not bound to account) is still something exciting when you finish.
I don't like how DDO is slowly becoming a "you must be this tall to ride this ride / you must ride this ride to become this tall" frustration loop. (as i see it)
I do know there are great people on the community that will help out skilled casual players get their raids done. but even that's dissipating.
And the guild is making great friends with other guilds (mostly from them inviting one of us when were soloing) but its kinda hard to msg a guild and say "hey, want to put together a raid that I could join?" that just sounds tacky, neewbish and pikey.
I don't know, this is just more a brain dump of thoughts.
My guild is only on Thelanis. anyone in Infinite Void is good people, good players, and were really good at what our characters do. we don't PUG that often (usually when there's only one of us on), but we also don't mind Pinvites if you talk to us first. all of us have voice chat, we ask questions, take direction well and are honest. we'll tell you if we're new to the quest or not.
We're looking forward to all the new guild things coming up, but we are worried that again, its going to be based on things that a casual guild isn't going to be able to do. Same with the customization side of both toons and guilds. To get this cool thing you need to do this, to do this, you have to be this cool.
Maybe get a casual guild alliance going or something? would anyone be interested in that kinda thing?
like I said before, this is more a brain dump of thoughts.
Love DDO, We're all looking forward to playing it for a long time to come.
