View Full Version : What's with the VON flagging issues?

Twice now I've not been able to enter von 5 because of snafus with the flagging system. According a gm it's a known issue but surely the first proper raid doable by all these new players they're keen on grabbing must be top priority for a fix.

The 2nd time this happened I'd already completed a von with my wiz and went back to repeat it. On the way I noticed the old von 4 hadn't been handed in on the quest log (although this was still after a fully completed von 5 and 6). I got a box sharing von 5 which I accepted and I went and handed in von 4. Then I proceeded up to enter von 5 but apparently I wasn't on the right section, "Talk to the dwarf outside the vault". I tried that and he told me how great the vault was but nothing more, I check my quest log and it says to speak to Marek. I do so and Marek tells me how great we all are we killed the dragon.....

Eh? So what's all that about? Being given the switcheroo by the npcs the game's sending me to for a raid I've already been in once.

Oh and fyi this was a day or two ago, nowhere near the update that changed the flagging.

Anyone able to add to this to try to help the devs to solve it?

as far as solving it, I dunno what to tell you. It happened to one of my toons, and I took the thrity minutes to solo it all on casual (level 20...so Thats prboably a diff story than yours) Anyway, It worked like a charm, and now I don't have the bug anymore.

Thats all I can tell yah buddy.

Here's how you have to flag for VON now (and this should be stickied in bold font somewhere).

The following has to be done one time...

Abandon absolutely every quest related to the VON series that you can. Talk to the guy at the bottom of the pyramid, pick up the quest from each quest giver for each part. Run on casual all flagging parts - about 20-25 minutes. Talk to Von 5 guy and you're flagged forever.

Again and again I see players forget to abandon everything. Doesn't matter how many times you've done VON before the original patch.

Um, right... As I said that character hadn't done any of VON before the update. All were done since including a run or 2 through the raid. I tried to do it again but couldn't. The update is irrelevant apart from whatever problem has occurred since.

Sure I could abandon all of them and start again but that's not the point is it? The point of the thread is the awareness of the problem for those who don't read on here and have no idea what they did wrong, which is usually nothing.

I ran my ftr thru epic von, and still got hit with the flagging bug when i tried to get in the second time. I did abandon and reflag again, but i've only run it once since then. hopefully it won't happen again.

it is screwy. i HAVE abandoned everything to do with the quest, and like the OP, i have flagged and run the raid. upon completion of the raid, seems it wants me to reflag again. all i got to say is if turbine wants me to run the raid, they will fix it. if they dont, itll just be one more raid i wont run at all. this is just another reason to say things need to be TESTED before being released in game. it was released half tested, buggy as hell, made "acceptable", and id lay money on it turbine hasnt given the raid flagging process another thought, especially with so many other half finished, half perfected things they have released to us. who tests things for them, anyways?? i know most of people i know dont play on lammannia, or have no desire to. because even when you tell them things are broken like this, it doesnt get fixed, it gets released, anyways. this just falls under one of those issues that do matter to gameplay, and obstructs fun.

but reflagging is soooo much easier now with scaling and casual difficulty. A level 20 epic ready toon can breeze thru it all in rapid succession. If you are in a real hurry, just have three other guildies solo each part, and then wait for you to zone in to complete.

This is pure speculation, but i think that some toons are able to initially flag with one or some of the prereqs completed prior to the flagging change. After the first run thru epic von5 the mechanism gets screwed up when some of those old flags don't register again. I've had two toons flagged for epic von and one has run into trouble. So far I haven't had trouble since reflagging (hopefully it holds up)

if you do say 1 +2+3 then click repeat 1 but don't repeat it, then finish 4 you wont be flagged, as you need all 4 completed in your log at the same time. repeating them before you finish flagging hoses it up.

This happened on Orien:
One toon in our group was getting red lettering, yet was getting credit for the quest. (The prisoner)
Another toon was continuously getting DC'd.
I couldn't open the quest on hard, even though I am VIP and all hard is open to me without completing normal first.

Any ideas as to what is the issue?

9/10 the problems here are not bugs, but rather user error caused by the confusing fact there are still 2 flagging systems in place.

Lot of people remained flaged pre update 3 from the old system.

Then they go run the raid post update 3 and think for some reason think there now perma flagged since they beat the raid. That's not how it works. You beat it using the old flag - which was valid for that 1 shot, but is no longer valid, so you need to do the new flag.
This is the most common mistake, not a bug, but just confusion.

There is only 1 bug with the flagging:
If you talk to marek - he will break your von5 quest. But there is an easy workaround: manually abandon von5, talk to barrow. Fiixxed. (Rather insane the GM's still don't know or offer this easy workaround to players)

So how to flag:
1. NEVER TALK TO MAREK. He only breaks your log and is absolutely not required, not even on a brand new character.
2. Complete the 4 quests - and get end rewards. Order doesn't matter. Long as they show (completed) in your quest log, thats good.
3 Talk to barrow. Your perma flagged. Even if you now open von1-4, it doesn't matter, they no long need to be listed as completed.

OP: Assuming you did infact run the 4 quests correctly post update3, Just manually abandon "The Vault of Night" then talk to barrow, you should be good.

Is this related to the quest Marek gives you.....I think if you complete that in the proper order once you won't have to worry about it anymore as it's a one-time only quest.

Unfortuntely it requires you to talk to him each time you complete a quest and u do have to do them in pre-update 3 order.

The last 2 toons I flagged for VoN, I ran thru and talked to Marek too. I did them in order and have had ZERO issues running and re-running VoN 5-6. This is what worked for me and has worked on more than one occasion after the updates.

You can thank "share please" for that. When a quest (or quest chain) requires more than 1 npc to talk to, "sharing" doesnt advance your quest through everyone required. Deleras/VoNS/Catacombs/Threnal/Greymoon-Co6/Necropolis (all 3 series)...etcetera have all been known to bug out by not giving end rewards or not advancing to final chapters, pre raid/raid.

Sharing the quest doesn't mess anything up here. Unless you've already talked to marek and got in that weird half done state he causes. If you didn't, it will just say you don't have the prereqs and not give it to you.

Sharing other quest chain quests will just put you on the first part, it doesn't prevent you from getting end rewards - user mistakes cause that the same as always, as you still need to talk to the npcs to advance the quests.

It can just result in the same von5 issue where your on the wrong goal. Again abandoning it and talking to barrow will fix that.

Talking to marek, nor the order you do it in matters.

All marek does is potentially break your flagging depending on what goal your on at the time.

My newest character is flagged fine and never talked to marek, he stil has the quest chalice above his head and im perma flagged.
