At first I thought it was some collectable item, but it's not.

Anybody knows what it is used for?

Nothing. It is an item you must pick up to complete a quest. It has no use other than to be destroyed after use. It is there mostly for flavor I believe although their might be technical reasons why they can't have it auto-destroyed on leaving.

Prior to that quest being reworked and moved from Stormreach to Korthos you used to have to turn that in for a reward, odds are thats why it sits in inventory.

But there are a few items like this that stay behind that shouldn't.
