So I play in a static group, and we all decided we need a little more help in the fighting and healing department. After I looked around and read up on all the classes I decided to go with a bard.
I usually play a rogue but one of the other members called dibs ( yeah, it feels like high school all over) and I had been wanting to try a bard anyway, so here I am.

We are all at lvl 6 all pure characters and I suddenly realized I still have no idea what I should be looking for in the way of armor and stuff. I keep reading about robes and high stat items but I can't find anything that really helps with what I need and where i should get it. Or when I should start getting ready for the higher lvl quests/equipment.

So hopefully when I get on tomorrow I will have some +3 mitheral BP of light fortification. That should carry me until level 10-12 if I have done my homework right. From there though I am completely lost, and even though I started last year I have come to the conclusion that I know more about DDO than the vets I play with. the rest of the group( except my wife) is not as much help as I would have thought given that they have been playing for a couple of years.

So I am a human, I like to fight, I LOVE to sell high and I am Patiently learning how to jump back to heal while keeping up with all of the buffs. Oh yeah I am having a blast with this character also.

So I humbly throw myself at the feet of the masters and ask for your knowledge and wisdom.

Where do I go from here with a bard? :o

Warchanter gear? A plectrum, Doc Martens and a bottle of Jack! :)

For armour, around mid-levels a bard will start having trouble getting a meaningful AC. But bards have plenty of other means of protecting themselves. Keep Blur up all quest, keep you Iron Skin chant going for that nice 5 Damage Resistance (DR), cast Displacement before larger fights. Around level 12-13 you should start using Stoneskin wands as well (through UMD), at least before major fights.

If you are a front line combatant your Light Fort wont cut it for much longer, critical hits is what kills new players more than anything else. Medium Fort on belts and rings is min level 7 I think. You can get Heavy Fort at level 9 on a helmet you craft with ore from the quest A Relic of Sovereign Past.

Better yet is to run the Orchard adventure zone and collect Tapestries from the rare's chests. They drop often and you get XP and normal loot as well. Check out a map of the Orchard here on the forums. These you can turn in for the Minos Legens helmet which gives Heavy Fort and +20 Hit Points. It is minimum level 11 though. You can also get Heavy Fortification at min level 8 on robes and outfits if you want to skip armour.

Around level 15 you'll want to get Dragontouched armour from the Reaver's Refuge. This is armour with three effect slots on it. It can be a depressing grind however, since the effects you will get are given through a lottery, so you cannot really plan with any certainty. Some of the effects are nice though check them out on the DDO wiki (http://ddowiki.com/page/Dragontouched_Armor).

As for other equipment it is fairly standard. You will want a Perform item for when you will Fascinate mobs. My bards tend to carry around a lot of scrolls and wands, Heal scrolls and Raise scrolls in particular. For weapons you didn't say if you are TWF/THF/S&B or what race you are so hard to give advice. Many warchanters use a feat for khopesh. I have one drow spellsinger that used rapiers but I respecced her at high levels for Heavy Repeaters. She is mostly a Shroudbot though. Then I have two human warchanters that uses khopeshes.

Thank you for the information. Now I know where to start at least.

I am going THF and will probably go for khopeshes, but I haven't really decided. I am just starting to look into crafting and I would like to know more before I decide.
