damage types?

Hey everyone,
I hope this post doesn't come out confusing, I'll try to be as clear as possible...

I want an item that will up my damage on searing light. What type of dmg is that? Good or bad or what? There is a helm of 40% increase to negative spells, but searing light is a divine spell, so does that mean its positive?? or is it negative anyway b/c it does dmg?

Is there a list somewhere explaining what all these things mean and what affects what spells?

searling light is light damage, so you need a benevolence item

just read the spell description to see what kind of damage a spell does, its always stated there
