Looking for opinions please. Which seems to have to most benefit for the dollar...the $15/month paid account or merely buying individual packs as you go along?? Looking for pros and cons for both opinions....thks.

I think it depends on you - how often do you plan on playing, for example, or how hardcore you are.
As a casual player, pay-as-you-go works best for me, but I can definitely see how subscription would be worthwhile for someone who plays more often and takes it more seriously than I do.

If you search the forums you will find many posts on this topic already.
If you think you're going to be here for six months or less, it's probably cheaper to buy a subscription. if you think you're here for the long term, buying adventure packs when they're on sale is a cheaper way to go. Another possibility often suggested is to get a subscription for one month. This gives you access to all the content so you can try it out, see which packs you might like to buy, and maybe level one char up. It also automatically upgrades you to premium if you cancel the subscription, giving you two more character slots on each server.

In my reading the number arrived at was 17 months. If you plan on being here for 2 years, the Pay as you go is the way to do it. As said above, buy adventure packs when on sale.
If you are a power gamer and you will get to end game and true resurrect yourself five times in less than six months, then go play the Star Wars MMO, if it gets released, then VIP is the way to go.

altaholic....mmm....Since I have 15 slots on both accounts guess that qualifies me....currently VIP is the way to go on both, but saving up TP on the second account and will probably someday drop that one to a Premium one.

The way I look at the 15 bucks is cheaper than a movie and way cheaper than a night out a bar and unfortunately less than 2 packs of smokes. I play easily 60 hours a month. That's .25 cents an hour...plus I get 10 slots (4 sounds like a lot but it isn't once you account for mules), GM access, and full forum access so I can troll from work.

To each his/her own.
I'm VIP currently. I've trimmed down very rarely played alts and consolidated. I have two level 20 mains and hagglebot/mule and an alt/mule.
At my subscription rate, a year costs about $140. I figure I'll play for at least a year more, probably longer. So I bought $100 of TP (13800) and will use that to buy shared bank, adventure packs, warforged, etc.
I should be able to buy everything I currently use (might not buy catacombs, sharn, some necro, etc.) and then not pay anything except for new content if I need/want it.
It'll pay off after a year or so. If it doesn't, I'll resubscribe after a year goes by and won't be out any more $ than I would've been if I stayed a subscriber!

For me VIP is clearly not worth it, even though I was with the 10$/month special, I'm about to cancel it to downgrade to premium. The main reason is I have no interest in the store "fluff" items (like mnemonics, XP/loot pots, cosmetics...) so I get tons of TPs I just don't use except for the rare True Reincarnation (because I'm too lazy to wait to farm epic tokens). In the end I'm paying 10$/month pretty much only for access to all content, when Turbine releases maybe 2$/month worth of content.
I'd say VIP is only good if you are in one of the following situations:
1. You want to play a lot during a short period to get a good idea of what the game can offer, before you buy the stuff you need (so just 1-3 months of VIP)
2. You are planning to use all your 500 TP/month (on non-content store items)
