Can an end game sorc get their necro dc high enough that enervate's 1d4 drain will be enough to fod mobs or do you absolutely need energy drain's 2d4?

You can get your necro DC high enough that you don't need to use either. Requires a ton of extremely rare gear tho.
But there's no reason not to get energy drain and drop enervate.. Energy is just much easier to fit. Lvl4 has a ton of nice spells, lvl9 I don't see any choice really (ED, Mass Hold, Wail)
Only issue with energy drain is spell resistance. You need a very solid score to land it on tougher mobs as you probably won't have a spell pen IX item, but will have a IV.
Main area i have trouble with that is Tower of Despair. I find it best for a single sorc to handle all the orthons, so melee DPS can focus on what they do best. But handling that entirely alone and effectively demands a high spell pen.
So if you run tower allot, you may wish to keep enervate just for that.. As 1 enervate + flesh to stone should work most of the time, and if not 2x +stone will work.. And work more often then 1 energy drain due to SR.
Recently got a spell pen IX item myself, so I won't get enervate back.. But it has it's place for some.
