View Full Version : When will my cleirc be rdy for epic?
So last weekend i caped my 18 clr 2 monk on khyber. And laitly i have been wanting to get in to epic quests. I have only ran 1 so far on him and had to chug 4 mana pots. I would love not to have to do that each one. Here is his my.ddo so you can see what gear he has, as well as stats, saves, hp, sp. http://my.ddo.com/character/khyber/intimacleirc/
So far i kno that i need to get my tier 3 sp goggles done, could use bauble from wep. shipment and i would like to have the Head from reaver.
I have my archmagi taken care of (look in ring slots) GFL, +6 con, menos, +6 wis. So i have the basic stuff down just need the harder stuff
Is there any other peices of gear i need or should i just suck it up and drink pots (have about 10 atm)
Thanks

Your spell points at 1964 are not too bad, but more spell points are useful for sure. You can get more from the Bauble and part 3 of the shroud item. Your character right now is mostly a healbot character when you consider your wisdom etc which is fine. Really the best thing to do is to either get a nice set of people that are ready to run epics and/or get some more experience under your belt. Use scrolls as much as you can to start out so that way you can get out of the habit of using mana pots. Scrolls are cheaper then mana pots.
Also target the easier epics Von1, Von2, Offering of Blood, Von4 and with a knowledgeable raid group von6. I just ran 6 von 6 last night for instance and pugged out multiple spots on just about every run. Guilds that run Von6 frequently on Khyber include: Elite Raiders, The Free Companions, Ransack, Prophets of the New Republic, Twilight Avengers, etc.

Matt pretty much summed it all up nice. My cleric that I run epics with has <1900 sp. I rarely use any resources at all. Sometimes a run goes upside down and rather than restart it I'll power us through with resources, but thats usually cuz we're running them late and im lazy.

I have a mid lvl cleric that I have been very reluctant to lvl up because I things I repeatedly see with my other chars. I know I would never have a problem getting in groups or raids if I did lvl him up because so many groups and raids I see always need healers.
Yesterday I was in a ToD. For healers there were 2 FvS, a cleric and a bard. There was a nice recovery after some kiter trouble in part 2. Lag has been awful to the kiters lately. Part 3 was going well until a squishy rogue died several times. The group leader (cleric) was intent on killing both bosses and we pulled it off basically on his shoulders because he anded up using x pots and 120+ heal scrolls.
This was ToD on normal. I can only imagine how epic raids would go if something didn't go acording to plan. I'm not sure I want any part of that.
Best of luck with you in epic I'm sure who you epic with has a lot to do with it, but yesterdays group was great except for that one rogue.

My cleric's been doing epics for awhile. A good cleric will have atleast 100 heal scrolls, a minimum of 300hp (bare minimum), and a 5% weighted item. If your +to hit is garbage then just bring a couple oversized weapons with some burst effect on them so that when a mob is stunned you can atleast auto crit and help out the dps.
Your probrably not gonna have to use the scrolls or any pots but they are there for scenarios where things dont go as planned. My cleric has over 500hp and only 2k sp and I dont ever run out. You just have to learn to not overheal and you will be good to go. Also, carry break enchantment for enemy blade barriers, acid fog, and incendiary clouds. A good + to hit for epic is 50+ and buffed my cieling is 48 when dual wielding tenderizers but I have the TWF feat (+4 dex tome). Any other advice your just gonna have to pick up as you go along.

I run my level 20 pure cleric in EPIC.
I find I can help the most by a) knocking down the AC of some mobs using the Rahl's Might I picked up a while back (Improved Destruction = -8AC), b) swinging the Tenderizer from the Reaver (5% weighted), and c) keeping main melees types upright.
Now my cleric has decent combat ability so can actually hit on non 20's (especially with Divine Power and Titans Grip on her). If you only try to be reactive and HEAL, then it will be more costly. A few good swings on the mobs and everything goes a lot easier. Not that it does much killing, but even a summoned Hezrou can distract a mob or two for a while (and give flanking bonus in any case) and suck up attacks that would otherwise hit your allies. They get healed in the mass healing spells as well.
Look for other spells to mitigate needs for healing. As a Pure Cleric I usually drop the Capstone effect on someone (often a caster) and that can save a death and loss of all buff spells in the middle of a messy spot at times. The margin of error between smooth success and a wipe in EPIC is a lot smaller than other settings (for many of the quests). Be sure to look for the no save spells that you can cast (since most epic mobs will save most of the time...if they are not just simply immune..)

Wow, with the description of epic dungeons, it sounds like its really hard...if not impossible for a lot of people. Guess they weren't messing around when they gave out epic areas.
I wanna get VoN because its the only way for me to true reincarnate cheaply, but yet I worry I wont be able to find groups that are powerful enough to handle such a thing...

Nah whats hard it getting people to do it the aeasy way.
or try to explain that yes your dps is awsome. if only your spell point useage per second didn't match your dps we would be awsome.
also the epics scale up hard. what takes one searing light solo. will take cowering in a corner as your BBs fly thousands of damage an the combat window in a full group, and stuff will still be living when they fade away.
Make sure you have a dreamsplitter when in party with anyone who is stunning (which should be every epic quest almost). Every non melee toon in there swinging those at stunned mobs speeds things up a good amount. Also, try using mass heal. It takes some getting used to, but is very efficient in epic 6 mans.

Characters are "Ready" for epic as soon as they cap out at 20.
the REAL question is when is the person behind the keyboard ready.
