Warforged Sorcerer | New Player Friendly | Standard 28pt Build
20 Sorceror
Warforged: True Neutral

EDIT: This build is a slight variation for my Velkro (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=230660) Sorcerer build. This build is focused around the idea of creating an effective sorcerer for new players. Very standard, very easy to build, effective all the way to end game, and self-sufficient.

STATS:28 pt build

18 CON
10 INT
16 CHA +5 Ranks
*Every 4 levels (4/8/12/16/20) you will get
1 ability increase. Put these all into CHA.

FEATS:

1 Sorcerer (Feat) Empower
3 Sorcerer (Feat) Spell Focus: Evocation
6 Sorcerer (Feat) Toughness
9 Sorcerer (Feat) Extend
12 Sorcerer (Feat) Maximize
15 Sorcerer (Feat) Heighten
18 Sorcerer (Feat) Mental Toughness or Spell Penetration

HP BREAKDOWN

80: Sorcerer (4 per level)
160: Con (26)
20: Heroic Durability
10: Draconic Vitality: 10
20: Minos Legens
45: GS/ MIN II Item
30: GFL
18: Toughness
40: Racial Toughness IV

Total: End-game, properly geared, around 423
*Hit points is dependent on Enhancements, gear, and tomes, will vary by level, and player.

SKILLS

UMD
Concentration

Instruction: every level, put as many skill points into UMD and Concentration as you can.
This build has just enough points to max each skill.

ENHANCEMENTS LEVEL 20:

IN PROGRESS
TOTAL: 80 AP

GREENSTEEL ITEMS

Triple Positive Greensteel Goggles: +6 Cha Skills, Spell Power, Greater Spell Power, Aspect of Positive Energy: True Resurrection (1/rest)
Mineral II Gloves (or Helmet): +45 HP, Stoneskin Clicky (3/rest), Heavy Fort, Prot +5, +6 Con skills
*Note: If you are a new player, don't plan on getting these items anytime soon.
Both of these Greensteel items require end-game raiding, and many hours
of invested time.

QUESTION & ANSWER

Q. Why did you go True Neutral?
A. True neutral lessens the damage you take from certain enemies, in addition it allows you to use the upgraded Death's Touch from Mindsunder (Inspired Quarter/Dreaming Dark) for +2 Necromancy Focus.

Q. But I don't have WF :(
A. Yes, for a free to play / premium, you must pay to unlock the WF race... however they are easily one of the best races in the game. If you're new, and want to play a caster, nothing matches the self-sufficiency and survivability of a Warforged Sorcerer!

Q. Why did you go 16 CON? Isn't that expensive?
A. Because every HP counts, and I didn't need any other stats. With 16 CON, and Warforged Racial benefits, this character has an above-average amount of HP for a caster, making this build self-sufficient, harder to hill, and easier for the new player.

Q. I noticed you chose Mental Toughness feats, are those really necessary??
A. The level 15 and 18 feats will depend on the player. A new player will benefit from the extra spell points these give you, however if you plan on running end-game content, you might consider swapping both these feats to Spell Penetration.

[B]Q. What if I have tomes?
A. This build is built with the idea, that a player shouldn't need to have expensive gear and tomes to play an effective character. Eat tomes as you get them, but don't worry since they are not necessary. If you have a +2 INT tome, consider eating it at level 7, and using that extra skill point each level to invest in haggle.

Q. 32 Point Build?
A.12 STR, 18 CON, 10 INT (Use a +2 INT tome) and 16 CHA. 12 STR = higher weight limit as to how much you can carry, and the extra INT +2 Tome allows you points into Balance or Haggle.

Q. Why did you choose Warforged?
A. For a new player, Warforged makes a great caster race. It is totally worth buying via Turbine points. You will not regret that purchase. Despite the -2 CHA from Racial Penalties, WF can self-heal, and have more HP then Drows or Humans, making them a great race for a new player who is looking for self-sufficiency, and survivability.

Below is a quick list of the benefits of the top Sorcerer races. If you are interested in going human, read my velkro (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=230660)build.

Human

+1 CHA
+1 Feat
+1 Skill/level
Medium HP
Good AP

Drow

+2 CHA
Low HP
Bad AP

Warforged

-2 CHA
EASY SELF HEALING!
High HP

Q. 32 Point Build?
A.18 CON, 8 INT (Use a +2 INT tome) and 18 CHA. Or you could start with a higher INT, and use the extra skill points for Haggle, and possibly balance.

how are you getting 18 cha on a wf? even with 32 pt builds 18 cha is impossible to get on a wf, max is 16, they start with only 6 in cha. other than that typo I would recommend 10 or 12 str 18 con 16 cha and 8 or 10 int for the 32 pt builds. The str lets you carry more and at low lvls you can use your staff/scepters as weapons when out of sp and being mobbed, as will happen to a new player and shouldn't make you have an auto face plant or go 18 con, 16 cha and the rest into int as the extra skill points would make the build easier for a new player. You may want to point out that enhancements are easy and cheap to change, and new players should feel free to experiment with different enhancements to better learn the game.

For new players it might help them to see which spells you took in the beginning and when and why you changed them, ie repair light damage at lvl 1 or 2 changed to whatever when you got repair mod damage etc, etc, etc.

+ 1 for helping new players and making a good, easy to follow build for new(ish) players (note wf isn't a new player race as it has to be bought with TP or vip status, which costs real money and new players are generally f2p, just learning the game)

Thanks Spoonman457!
My math was wrong there. I updates the main post, thanks for bringing to to my attention.

True, on a 28 point build, these stats allows you to carry more:

12 STR
16 CON
10 INT
16 CHA

I'll make a "best spells for new players" section when I'm not at work ( :P )
thanks!

Update: Added Spell Focus: Evocation so that players will qualify for the Savant Prestige Enhancements.

I recommend:
Fire: Levels 1-14
Water: Levels 15-20
Air: Level 20 (if you run Amrath/Raids)

I've also removed the spell list - so many spells have changed so it's out of date. I encourage people to play around and see what they like.
