I have just unlocked the Drow race tonight on one of the server. Unfortunately, I am torn between creating a multiclass rogue/ranger versus a pure rogue. I read some of the players' suggestion and realize that if you create a multiclass character not correctly, it may be disastrous. However, rogues are weak by themselves. Does that mean I always have to travel with a party. Also, I am not sure the major advantages of a drow. Any valuable advice from experienced player will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Even a pure class rogue can be mighty strong if you chose to build for strength and combat prowess.

Infact most people here would tell you to do exactly that with a rogue and never ever build only to the traps aspect. Rogues are very powerful combatants able to dish out huge amounts of damage in a very short time, traps is just something extra they can do. However yes you likely will need a party for some time since a rogues massive DPS comes from their sneak attacks. Once you can make your greensteel radiance II weapons then you can create your own diversions in combat and get sneak attacks with or with out a party.

If you want a good solo build 2 rogue/18 ranger is pretty sweet. Also they are relatively easy and cheap to outfit with gear. However don't be so set on drow. Drow are not that great. Sure, dex based rogues are pretty darn good, but extremely expensive. As a new player you simply can't afford wounding of pucturing rapiers/holy burst of pure good/ etc. Str based is a much more 'newbie friendly' build. Oh, and if you do decide to multi class a rogue be sure to take the rogue at creation. Get a ton more skill points to allocate that way.

Rogue, by itself is not weak.

The capstone (imo) sucks, but Assassin III is a great DPSer.

If you're not worried about the capstone, you could multi-class the last 2 levels.

But again, no, rogues are not weak. Ok, so the incorrectly built ones are, don't be fooled by their "uberness" in Korthos or the Harbor.

While I would never call a well built rogue weak, I don't think they are well suited for solo play, the op gave me the impression he planned on soloing a lot. *shrugs* maybe I read too much into his post?
