Hi Guys,

I have a quick question about how Damage Reduction stacks. If I wear an Adamantine Full Plate and a tower shield (both which give damage reduction, I think) will the damage reduction stack? Thanks in advance.

thats both passive DR and passive DR doesnt stack with other passive DR, only the highest applies
passive DR does stack with active (aka blocking) DR

for example:
you have the korthos spearbane bracers for DR 3/slashing, bludgon and an adamantine armor with dr 1/adamantine

that means every piercing dmg gets reduced by 3, any other non-adamantine dmg by 1 and any other adamantine dmg not at all

No they will not stack. DR is a bit confusing to understand. Try the search field here on the forums and type in DR or damage reduction and you should find a useful guide. Im a bit shady still on how DR works and DR can come from many sources. Some will stack others dont.

they are actully a bit wrong. the DR that regular shields, ones that dont have a special DR granting power, add that DR to your highest passive one ONLY when your are actively blocking. shield blocking is considered active DR and that will stack with passive types.

By this do you mean that I don't get any passive DR from holding a regular shield (without blocking)? Or do shields grant both a passive DR and an active DR (while blocking)?

you only get passive DR from a shield when it has something like spearblock or Adamatine on it. passive DR's are the ones that show up on your character sheet. the DR listed on the stats is whats added when you block.

Oh that actually makes a lot more sense now. I had always thought that the DR listed on the shield itself was a passive stat. Thanks :)

it was never said that shields add to passive DR
maybe dont throw words like 'wrong' around when their usuage is also wrong

It's not passive, no. It's also only part of the total DR boost you get when you actively block. Your inventory panel shows your full active DR bonus at the bottom, labeled "Blocking DR", and even that is only correct against melee attacks. It might be lower against ranged based on your weapon and/or shield setup. The benefits of active blocking are complex, conditional, unintuitive, and undocumented in-game. See http://ddowiki.com/page/Active Blocking for the full breakdown.
