A friend of mine recently reinstalled DDO and has been getting extremely frustrated with some technical problems that have come up.

Initially, he fired the game up and logged onto his WF (F2P, had not bought it), ran around the Market for a bit, and then, when loading into the Rusty Nail, his client froze. When he tried logging in again after rebooting the program, he get the message that he couldn't play the WF because he hadn't purchased it. He had some TP lying around, so he bought WF, but still couldn't get on--I think he would go to load in, and just never saw the load screen bar progress.

Managed to log onto another, non-WF character, and after spending 5 minutes trying to figure out which quests we could run together (I have little clue as to which quests are free in the level 6-10 range), he buckled and went VIP. We headed out to Gianthold and as he was loading in to A Cabal For One, had the same loading screen problem. Ended up DCing. Restarted DDO a few times with problems, and then was finally able to get into the game.

Came back into the Ruins of GH, made it to the quest entrance, helped me fight off the trash outside, and then had the same loading screen error and DC when trying to enter the quest.

If he had error messages, he didn't mention any, and I've not had this problem so I couldn't help directly. He was getting extremely frustrated, so I figured I should come on here to see if anyone might have some suggestions as to what can be done to solve this mystery problem of his, or at least steps for identifying the issue.

a guildie of mine complains about a similar issue though he hasn't mentioned it in a while, he recently did a number of hardware upgrades which i assume has fixed the issue for him. i'll ask him if its fixed and how he did it later when thelanis is back up

Thanks.

Apparently my friend was able to get through some, or most, of The Pit with a group, but again got disconnected either near the end or just after it and was unable to log back in. Clearly the issue is not consistent in the trouble it causes, but it does continue to plague him after a day.

Anybody with any advice or solutions here? He's tried customer service, but was on hold for nearly half an hour, and can't afford to pay those kinds of phone bills. Put in a ticket in-game, but got DC'ed before it was responded to and the ticket was closed because he wasn't in the world when it was being reviewed.

You haven't said anything at all about what his machine is, OS, posted Dxdiags, etc.

Without that information all the rest of us who would like to help (or have worked tech support) just see "game broke, fix it."

So please help us to help you. Turn your line into "Game broke, fix it please. Here is what I'm working with."

And because it isn't always stated, please also include how he is connecting to the net. All parts, from his machine, the network connection, router, to modem. The troubles you have listed so far, that info could be helpful as well.

He's using Vista (loser) and is on his college's network. I'll see if I can get him to post his other specs here, but I will say that he was able to play WoW and a few other MMOs on his machine and current network without issue right up until he renewed his DDO account (as in, he was playing them until about a week ago, not that they no longer function without error).

So he's running wired on a college network. That college firewall could be part of his issues, seriously. I think you'll want to PM Victorie or Mithgar to ask them directly what information your friend would need to be certain DDO isn't getting throtled by campus rule sets. Ports is probably all the information necessary, but also knowing campus policies on Torrents as that is what some of the DDO traffic will look like.
