View Full Version : Any interest in +3 heart escrow service?

I was thinking about offering up a sort of escrow service for people that still have +3 hearts on the "wrong" servers. I would do this by collecting information on who has hearts available on different servers, what servers they needed to get moved to, and then set up a big set of transactions to move hearts around.

The advantages I see I could provide would include:

Trust - You only have to trust me, not one or more completely random people on other servers. Yes, I'm completely random to most of you, but I'm doing this publicly and clearly so my reputation is on the line.
Complicated trades - There are a lot of people not able to find trades they want directly from one server to another. I think there is the potential to complete a number of swaps that would involve multiple server trades (basically 3 and 4 way trades, sort of a round robin shifting of hearts).
More potential of trading - If we have one point for trading instead of all of us trying to do it on our own, we have more potential for successfully finding matches
Resources - I currently have hearts on 2 servers and probably enough plat on 2 servers to be able to buy more. I'm willing to use those resources to help find good matches. Of course, in the end, I'm still hoping to get my hearts to one server, but I'm more interested in seeing if I can help the community out first.
It's FREE - I'm doing this for three reasons. First, I have a heart I'd like to eventually get moved, and this gives me a chance to make that happen. Next, I'm interested in doing something that helps the community, not something that just helps me. Thirdly, if this goes really well, I may try to set up a service to help with other trades (plat and/or items) in the future.

I have a lot of the details of how to make this work figured out in my head, but want to get a feel for interest first. How many folks would be interested in participating in this? Just post below or toss me a PM.

For those that aren't clear on what an escrow service is, it's where 2 (or more) individuals give money or property to a neutral 3rd party (in this case, I'm the 3rd party). Once the 3rd party has collected the items/money from both individuals, he completes the trades with both. Used in the context of an MMO, it prevents the difficulty of deciding who is going to give up an item or money first and risk getting nothing in return. If one party backs out of the trade, the escrow service just returns the other persons items/money. Instead of having to trust a random person that you might not know, you only have to trust the escrow service.

Any interest?

That's good because I mostly play dwarves and well... that type of service wouldn't be pretty.

Great idea! I'm one of the people who could really use this service. I got a heart stuck on Khyber and I only play on Sarlona. Count me in if you get this thing rolling.

Well I think one of the problems of course is that you *are* completely random to most of us, especially considering the worth of the items involved. This means that being an escrow company doesn't do much to lessen the risk to the individual player, namely, "prevents the difficulty of deciding who is going to give up an item or money first and risk getting nothing in return". Then again, it's certainly difficult for you to go around being the first, because then you risk losing on the deals as well. And what's to prevent someone from saying they never got a heart from you even when you gave them one?

Anyhow, I have a heart on Argonessen, but I would prefer it moved to Orien.
