So, I'm stupid and didn't realize that Arcane Archer as an Elf PrE would bomb the ranger PrE choices. Was going to try for Tempest III, Arcane Archer you know the rest..... :o
But, I'm not too far into the build -- ranger 3/barbarian 1 -- so I don't think I screwed up completely. I was thinking to go ranger 6/barbarian 12/what 2.
It is the "what" that I'm stuck a bit on.
Wizard is the logical choice. A free feat to spend on Mental Toughness to meet the PrE requirement makes sense (although Elven Arcanum is probably a better option). The ability to cast (very short lived) Shield and Nightshield also makes sense. Heck, even the ability to Detect Secret Doors could be useful.
But, fighter also seems a good choice. Two free feats there. No loss of BAB. Ranger 6 will give me spell casting ability so I can still burn a normal feat on Mental Toughness. Shield and Detect Secret Doors clickies take care of most of the rest (although they are even shorter than a wizard 2 spell).
Lastly, cleric seems a choice. Maybe not as good but a couple of advantages; there's Nightshield spell (again) plus automatic access to CLW (not super useful but saves a spell slot and handy if someone is down but not dead).
Any suggestions (other than reroll -- I already have that one on the back burner)?
