So, I've seen the arguments back and forth for quite some time now on the forums about the type of behavior to expect from a "Vet".
I call for the community to come up with a definition of "Vet" that we can all adhere to going forward. For example, Is a person who has been playing DDO for one year a vet?
What if someone has been playing for two years, and has an elitist attitude towards new players? I keep hearing that "A person that acts that way is probably not a vet." Well, if the person has actually been playing that long, are they a vet who is also a ******? Or are they just an experienced noob? Or do they not qualify for vet status because two years isn't long enough?
I'm very confused about all of this mindset vs. actual time in game, and would like some clarification from the community at large. Can you be both a vet and a noob? (voob?)

vet·er·an
[vet-er-uhn, ve-truhn]
–noun
1. a person who has had long service or experience in an occupation, office, or the like.
I would personally define a DDO veteran something along the lines of, "A player who demonstrates extensive knowledge based on gameplay experience and community participation."
theres no actual definition, the closest would be prolly:
been here befor f2p and doesnt act like a jerk
Unfortunately a fair number of Vets always have been, and are always going to be, Jerks. A player's attitude/demeanor doesn't necessarily reflect how much they know or share about the game. There are some infamous forums Jerks who still share valuable game knowledge while some of the niceset players couldn't be bothered to learn or share anything.
I'd also have to discount the "been here before free-to-play" statement since as time goes by that will be a non-factor. I might buy into it as of today's date but in another year I don't think we can say a f2p player is any less of a Vet than someone who's start date is circa 2008.

"Vet" is about having extensive game knowledge. Not about starting time, although its mostly highly conected.
Behaviour has nothing to do with it, yu can be a jerk regardless of how good you know DDO.

It really has nothing to do with either knowledge or behavior. I've known long time veterans of many games that knew very little of how the mechanics functioned.
Expert or master would be terms that convey extensive knowledge.

Someone who's been playing this game for a long time?
How long is undefined of course.
But actually, if you look at the typical join dates on the forums, you will see that they tend to be 2006 or 2009....few in betweens.
The grey area in the middle is fewer people than you would think.

Vet-erinarian duhr...
to quote the great James Herriot (i think he plays on Orien these days)
“I hope to make people realize how totally helpless Newbs are, how dependent on us, trusting as a child must that we will be kind and take care of their needs... [They] are an obligation put on us, a responsibility we have no right to neglect, nor to violate by cruelty.”

In my grouping I've met a few newbies that acted more like vets and vets that acted more like newbies. Usually the vets that acted like newbies were mainly zergers that before anyone finished zoning into the quest was off and already running through leaving us at the beginning. Of course a lot of times when they did that it meant a high possibility of a failed quest. the zerger would end up dead far into the dungeon (and usually a class that would have helped clear the mobs along the way) and we would have to try and clear our way to the dead zerger to get him rezzed. And if the group did wipe it was the zerger the would recall out and drop group instead of regrouping with us and going in as a group.
